. The Line of people looking the other way with Crystal is long and established. I drove out to her Father's house when she was missing per Greta and a couple of the crews there pointed Crystal out as she drove by. She had no license and they all knew she was driving. They even quoted her Father once in the paper and he slipped saying she was out driving. No one wanted to broach the subject of why the little misses needed "drivers" either. I don't know anyone that has three drivers, myself. . Edited by Mason, Apr 13 2011, 11:59 PM.

"with intent to kill" That looks like it should be taken into consideration when they throw the new charges at her. |

I'd like a statement from Samiha Khanna describing how she came to write "Dancer gives details of ordeal"--who proposed it to her, who suggested the wording, how she met Mangum, what was left out of the story, etc. If she has a conscience, she'll tell the whole story. Ditto for Linda Williams |

Crystal's reputation was no secret in Durham so why would anyone get involved with her unless they too were involved with the vices she partook of. |

Amen to your sentiments ~J~ Like everyone here, I have been oscillating between outrage and deep sorrow for the victim tonight. For Mangum's enablers, the children are sacrificial lambs. To remove them from her "care" would destroy the metanarrative, and they can't allow that to happen. Edited by MikeZPU, Apr 13 2011, 09:56 PM.

Barry, my offer is still open. I know you will be working late, writing, editing, rewriting to get the words just right that your friendgirl is in deep trouble tonight. You must be using up a lot energy so my offer of a fish sandwich and a Yahoo are still open. Call me.... |

She gets her day in court, so I guess we should hold off on convicting her! |

. I think they may feel obligated to consult with Victoria Peterson. or Maybe Judge Abe Jones has signed onto the Friends of Crystal Mangum. I'm pretty sure that one Asst Public Defender did. She took one of the Mother Hen spots before her last trial was over. . |

I am touched by the compassion for the Daye family, and the outrage for Crystal on this board. But I am also puzzled. All my life I've heard that "if you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas". Daye's nephew tried to warn him that she was trouble. Why in the world would any GOOD man be sleepig in Crystal's bed? |

In the midst of our spate of triumphalism, there is genuine pain and sorrow. Our worst nightmare just materialized at the expense of a human life. To the left Reginald Daye is collateral damage, a sacrifice to the goddess of black womanhood, who got an A in a hard course, and who new to dancing. To the 88, he is collateral damage to the race, class, gender trope through which their world is understood. It does not matter that she falsely accused three young men of offenses which, if convicted, would essentially have ended their lives. The narrative was more important than stinking middle class facts. Facts in a conventional sense are just an artifact to keep poor black women like Crystal oppressed. To Roy Cooper, an act of humanity failed to become an act of courage, because to prosecute CGM would expose him to the most heinous charge imaginable in the left's world, the charge of racism. And the charge, once made, is irretievably true. Once someone is a racist, they lose all place in civilized society. Their ideas are outcast, and so are they. Richard Brodhead and Our Man Steel shored up their liberal enlightenment credentials by throwing their own students under the bus for a person now alleged to be a murderer, on top of all her other transgressions. And what will they say. Oh, we didn't know, the facts just kept achangin', how were we to know. And besides, if we had done the honest thing and stood by our students we would have lost our jobs, Durham would have burned in riots. So better to coddle a future murderer than risk their august positions. Reginald Daye died for the sins of Richard Brodhead, Robert Steel, Rev. Barber, Wahneema Lubiano and too many others to name. But they know who they are. At the Final Judgment they will have to explain to the risen Lord how they could have failed so miserably. And somehow I don't think the race, class, gender trope will play that well with Him. "Do unto others as you would have done unto you" would have been a better plan. Maybe now some can try. |

Let's just hope that the Durham PD has not mishandled the investigation. Did they get the proper forensic evidence? Have they interviewed the correct witnesses? I hope that the previous coddling of Crystal by the Durham PD will not interefere with a successful prosecution for murder or manslaughter. |

Well, he apparently was only with her for about 2 weeks... My condolences to his family. They must be quite shocked at the speed of this. |
