I fear this guy, Mr Daye, worked every day, paid his taxes, played by the rules (certainly looks that way from here), and paid his own way

Crystal is sabotaging her Life, that's what I think.

I am really confused by the obvious. Daye had to have known of Crystal's reputation either from the lacrosse case or from the fire she set in Milton's apartment. What would possess a rational man of his age to get involved with "the Crystal Mangum? Is he one of the enablers , or did he believe that she gave him status of some kind in the black community? She simply does not fit his profile as we know it currently. ?

My guess is that it gave him stature. Don't forget that after the Hoax ended, the NAACP of North Carolina still treated her as a celebrity. Cash Michaels wrote that Al McSurely introduced her to him after the charges were dropped, and his description of things made it sound as though McSurely thought of Crystal as a rock star.

While there were plenty of African-Americans in Durham who knew better -- and knew better from Day One -- nonetheless what she did gave her credibility to a lot of people. As I have said before, I am interested to see how her supporters spin a murder.

Good find TD!

That would seem to imply the family was not trying to
keep his picture hidden from the public - it would seem
to imply the press never asked for a picture ...
.

Well, there you go.

I rest my case.

Think Narrative

Yes, you were spot on: the media deliberately did not want to print
his picture, as they did not want to humanize Mangum's victim.

Initial media reports also stated that the victim would recover, and
there no word to the contrary until he died. Then, we find out that
he's been on life support for some time, before the family had to make
the awful decision to pull the plug.

The metanarrative lives.

Here is what is in the HS. This is done for free.

Anything else, including a picture, you have to pay for and it's not cheap.

His brother, Jamillah Muhammed, sounds colorful. Interesting to see how the aggrieved black working community will treat / be treated by the PC Crystal Clan. If I were Daye's family, I would be absolutely danged mad and determined for justice.... even though brother could definitely have used better judgment. You don't EVER refuse money from a mad woman with a knife, buddy. Give her the money, then change the locks on your door!

Well, the poor guy (obviously) was insufficiently careful. Would YOU be in the same room with Crystal? If she does not stab you, she will accuse you of raping her; if she does not accuse you of raping her, she will stab you. Or perhaps she will do both...

She is almost certainly going to accuse Daye of a felony...

Walt, If this is the case, (that North Carolina follows the M"Naughten rule)...
Not if. North Carolina is a M'Naughten rule state.

how come Cooper decided on his own not to pursue charges without getting an expert opinion on Crystal's insanity?

Did you read my post? The burden is on the defense to raise the insanity defense. That's what put's the defendant's state of mind at issue. Until the defense raises the issue, the state has no right to have a psych exam.

Maybe Cline can do the same. She can say that Crystal keeps on believing her changing stories, so they cannot charge her.

Given that Tracy Cline is weighing the politics, I am sure she is looking for an excuse. However, Murder in the Second Degree and Manslaughter are very different crimes from filing a false police report. To obtain a conviction for filing a false police report, the state would have to prove the filer knew the report to be false. In Crystal's case, she made so many statements, most of them designed to appease the very police she was allegedly giving false reports to, I think the state would have had a tough time meeting its burden of proof. Murder, is the knowing or intentional taking of the life of another human being. (Model Penal Code) Manslaughter is the knowing or intentional taking of the life of another human being without premeditation.

Walt, Thanks for replying.

The point I was trying to make is that Cooper decided to not charge Crystal Mangum because of political reasons under the guise of reasons that Crystal was mentally ill. I do appreciate that he said that the boys were innocent but I wish he had gone further as I felt that by excusing this type of behavior due to mental illness did a disservice to people who have a real mental illness that should make the M"Naughten rule apply to their behavior.

Cooper's long explanation as to why Crystal would not be charged, is probably the opening salvo for Woody Vann.

Them maybe the prosecutor (should there be an honest one) should call in her professors at NCCU and hear details of her cogent, insightful Magna Cum Laude course work.

You can't have it both ways...that is unless the Fix is in...in Durham.

Funeral to be held for Mangum's boyfriend
Monday, April 18, 2011

Reginald Daye (Reginald Daye)

DURHAM (WTVD) -- The boyfriend who was allegedly stabbed by former Duke Lacrosse accuser Crystal Mangum and later died, will be laid to rest this week.

Reginald Daye, 46, was 32-year-old Mangum's boyfriend when police say Mangum stabbed him in the chest during an argument at the apartment the couple shared in the 3000 block of Century Oaks Drive on April 3.

Search warrants say Daye told responding officers Mangum stabbed him and took his money.

He died days later at Duke University Hospital.

She was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Police say more charges will likely be filed against her.

Funeral services for Daye will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Union Baptist Church.

Daye, a Durham native, worked for Scotts Painting and Decorating Company at the time of his death.
