http://www.newsobserver.com/2011/04/08/1116346/durham-officer-charged-with-kidnapping.html A Durham police officer was arrested Friday afternoon on kidnapping and sexual assault charges. The alleged incident occurred on April 3 while the officer was on duty. Sgt. Lester Rhodes is charged with first-degree kidnapping and first-degree sexual offense and has been transported to the Durham County Magistrate’s Office for processing. “This is an ongoing investigation and we are not releasing further details at this time to avoid compromising the investigation,” Police Chief Jose L. Lopez Sr. said in a prepared statement. Police began investigating after receiving a complaint. "We'll see how the investigation shakes out," said City Manager Tom Bonfield. Bonfield said the allegations taint a police department that has many dedicated and hard-working officers and employees. "When a situation like like this happens, unfortunately it becomes a negative spillover on everybody," he said. Rhodes, 42, joined the Durham force in February 1996 and is currently assigned to the Patrol Bureau. He has been placed on administrative leave with pay. He is the third Durham officer charged with breaking the law in recent months. In early December, Officer Kevin A. Stewart was charged with driving while impaired while he was on duty. Stewart was fired shortly thereafter. A few days later, Officer L.A. Harvey was charged with running a red light after he collided with another vehicle while answering a call. |

http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=news/local&id=8061129 A former security systems expert with the Duke University Health System is accused of breaking into medical offices in Cary and Durham. Police have charged Shawn Michael Flaugher, 36, with burglaries at 29 medical offices in Cary between July 2010 and January 2011. He's also facing a dozen charges in Durham. Investigators say he used his expertise to compromise security systems in the offices to take medical supplies and drugs like morphine. Among Flaugher's alleged crimes, a burglary at the Duke Child and Family Study Center, cutting security alarm wires at the Duke Primary Care Clinic, and cracking a safe at the Duke Pain Clinic after breaking into that building. Police say he took about $13,000 worth of drugs and medical supplies from those locations alone. In addition to the break-ins, investigators say they found him in possession of computer files containing sexually explicit content showing children engaged in sex acts. Flaugher's online profile shows he has more than 15 years security industry experience - including work in the military and private security organizations. Duke says he is no longer employed there. It's not clear if he resigned or was fired. The charges against Flaugher include breaking and entering, larceny, safecracking, and sex offenses. |

Wow a Sgt with the DPD arrested on kidnapping and sexual assault charges? Then a former security systems manager for the Duke PD arested for multiple break-ins and stealing very powerful drugs. One was the one Michael Jackson died from, propofol. Security is supposed to be tight for that one. Who did he sell it to? Remember Folks the DPD spent months running extensive security & background checks on the entire 2006 Duke Lacrosse team. So much so they complained it hurt their gang crime fighting efforts. Remember Sgt Shelton was harassed by Linwood and scorned on the force for his of TELLING the Truth! Situation Normal in Mahrud! The Citizens need protection from the Police! Question:
Would there have been any video surveillance showing who entered the dorms, and when? And if so, would there thus have been additional evidence (besides the key card info) as to when the accused in the lax case entered their dorms or were elsewhere on campus? And did Duke examine the tapes to see what was on them; and what might Duke have learned? Probably not anything new; but it would be interesting if they had such information, and kept it to themselves. (And such tapes might have been reused before the university thought to save them--hence the emphasis on keycard info?). |
