We haven't had a poll in a while. What will be the outcome of the assault charge against Crystal? |

The most the law will allow for is what she should get. She can get the mental help she needs in prison. No more free passes for Mangum. |

Probation - later on, while on probation, she finally goes too far and gets put in jail. |

You need a new option: hung jury. Ain't nobody getting 12 Durhamites all voting to put CGM away. Particularly since the DA's office will only be half trying. |

Good point! One thing for sure, whatever happens, she will still be on the payroll of the state for some time to come. |

Hung jury is equivalent in Durham to "not guilty." The DA's office wants to avoid dealing with Crystal at all costs-- bad memories. My choices also did not include the strong possibility of a plea bargain to a lesser crime, but even if this happened she would still get one of the punishments listed. |

I love polls! I seriously and sadly think that she will walk. I also think the next time she will succeed in killing someone and Durham will find a way to let her get away with that as well. It is Wonderland. |

I checked probation, but if she gets jail time it will be for a inital short period and then weekends. One of the conditions would be mental health care. Probation woud be intense probation with mental health care as one of the conditions. |

So far no one has ever testified against Crystal. It is possible that this victim will not cave the way Milton did. I think he should insist on "telling his story" whether the DA and court appointed attorney for Crusty wants him to or not, even if he has to hire his own private prosecutor. |

She will claim that members of the Duke lacrosse team raped her while she was in prison. Sydney Harr will trumpet that claim on his Justice4Nifong blog, Jackie Wagstaff and Victoria Peterson will take up the cause, and the Duke faculty will demonstrate on campus. Richard Brodhead will join them, along with Larry Moneta and The Corpulent One (Burness), along with Houston Baker, who will reappear on campus. Remember, you heard it first here on Liestoppers!

FWIW: http://blogs.findlaw.com/blotter/2011/04/duke-lacrosse-accuser-crystal-mangum-stabs-man.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Duke Lacrosse Accuser Crystal Mangum Stabs Man? By Stephanie Rabiner on April 6, 2011 9:05 AM Crystal Mangum. She falsely accused Duke lacrosse players of rape, placing a black mark on many people's lives. She set fire to her ex-boyfriend's clothes, nearly burning down a house filled with children. And now? She's allegedly stabbed her live-in boyfriend with a kitchen knife. Repeatedly. Crystal Mangum was arrested early Sunday morning after a 911 caller identified her as having stabbed boyfriend Reginald Daye, reports The Smoking Gun. The attack is apparently the end result of a heated argument, reports ABC News. The victim, who was warned by a family member of Mangum's violent history, was stabbed in the chest multiple times and is currently being treated at a local hospital. Crystal Mangum is being held without bond at Durham County Jail, awaiting arraignment for felony assault with a deadly weapon charges, according to The Smoking Gun. We all know Miss Mangum from her involvement in the Duke lacrosse scandal. Will those events impact her trial? If Crystal Mangum goes to trial, prosecutors could potentially bring up the Duke lacrosse events to impeach her credibility in front of the jury. It may be found relevant in that she lied to police and prosecutors about the events, which calls into question anything she may say about her current motives. If Mangum pleads out, which is highly likely given that there was a witness, the Duke lacrosse mess will probably not factor into her punishment. However, her assault conviction for setting fire to her ex-boyfriend's clothing will likely be a major factor, as most prior convictions are. Edited by maggief, Apr 6 2011, 12:42 PM.
