Irony; Yo..Cathy Davidson...

Cathy Davidson's rationale for The Listeners was that this case ignited hurtful comments,it revived odious stereotypes that were demeaning to minority students, and therefore some of the faculty were compelled to speak out...in defense of those students...to rebut those stereotypes.

"- Last April I added my name to an ad published in the Duke Chronicle. The ad said that we faculty were listening to the anguish of students who felt demeaned by racist and sexist remarks swirling around in the media and on the campus quad in the aftermath of what happened on March 13 in the lacrosse house.

The insults, at that time, were rampant. It was as if defending David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann necessitated reverting to pernicious stereotypes about African-Americans, especially poor black women."

Let's accept that momentarily.

Yet Mangum has sadly proven to be the living embodiment of all the most hurtful, degrading stereotypes of old. But, instead of saying that she is a sick, troubled woman who needs help... those closest to her in the Black community...have repeatedly said in public that Mangum is a choice representative of Black womanhood today. They claim we just don't understand the Black culture, etc.

Really? Women in Black culture today commonly work in the sex trade, have their body orifices filled with multiple male DNA, their underwear crusted with semen? They set fires with their children in the house, they stab with knives when irked?

I AM NOT SAYING THIS...but it is being said. By members of the Black community of Durham to defend Mangum.

This derogatory rationale infuriates me. I find it odious and offensive. It needs to be stomped down and rebutted.

But where are the 88?

Do they not consider this tripe hurtful and demeaning to their minority students? I would roar at anyone who tried to find a commonality between Mangum and my godchild. THERE IS NONE.

Why have none of the signatories of The Listening Statement spoken up to rebut the Crystal sycophants RIGHT THERE IN THEIR MIDST? Are the comments we hear cocooning Crystal ...that she is the victim only of cultural misunderstanding...not the most odious racial smears on all the legions of accomplished Black women today?

How ironic that the type of smears and whispers that are surely generated by the "Mangum is Fine; She's Just Us" defense... that some in Durham's Black community are making to defend Mangum...are TODAY allowed to seep into consciousness and reinforce old ugly stereotypes! It is being DEMANDED that we view the motel-hopper, fire-starting, knife-stabbing serial False Accuser as just what the Black community calls... a "Good Mother."

How's that working for you?

Mangum's supporters are demeaning smart, bright, moral, hard-working young Black women everywhere...but..

Cathy, Cathy, have you "Listeners" plugged your ears?

You just let it stand. You let Mangum's stain seep onto every fine young woman on your campus.

When will you publish? Where's your outrage and compassion now?

And, what in Crystal's own words, were Black men doing to her at age 14...while no one in her family or extended Black community sought help for this child, That, Cathy Davidson is a social disaster you will NEVER address in your faux compassion.

"Called victim [Crystal Mangum] in reference to an earlier sexual assault that she reported at Creedmor police department.

She stated that she was dating F_____ at the time. She stated that she had ran away from home on previous times and that she had been found hiding at F____'s house after the police came with a search warrant.

She stated that she was used by F____ to sell drugs and take the money to him.

She stated that when F____ was not there some men would come over, L____, A_____ and S_____. She stated that she would have sex with them when Floyd was not around.

She stated later that the men paid F____ to come over and have sex with her.

She stated that one day F_____ confronted the victim about the men that were coming over and having sex with her. She stated that she denied it to him and then he brought the three men to the house. She stated in front of her she asked them and they all said that they had been having sex with her. She stated that F____ grabbed her and they went into the bedroom where she stated three men Mr. F____, A____ and L____ “ran the train on her”

she stated she was very scared . In her voice I could sense that she was becoming very emotional, she stated that she did tell some of her family members about it and that she went to Duke Hospital about a week after the incident.

She stated that Mr. F____ stated to her that no one would believe her and she stated that she didn’t think anyone would believe her since she had already had sex with them before. She stated that F_____ was very abusive and stated that if she ever told he would find her and that she was very afraid of him at the time. She stated years later she met her husband Mr. McNiel who she confided with about the incident. She stated he urged her to go report the incident so that she could have some closure and that she wont keep it a secret. She stated she reported it to the Creedmor police who did an investigation. She stated that she was told by the investigators that it would be a long process and that at her young age it would be mentally and physically tough and very hard on her. They told her that all three of the men were currently in jail and that were going to be in jail for a significant time.

The victim stated that Mr. F_____ had been in jail for pushing his grandmother down the stairs which killed her. [no evidence has been found of this supposed murder]

When you have a prominent member of the black community, Jackie Wagstaff, telling us that we don't understand the "black household" after Crystal sets Milton's clothes on fire in the bath tub and he is so freightened at what she may do that he walks out of the house barely dressed, why then shouldn't we develop certain stereotype images of black women.

Well, the guys are smart enough to not allow the women to have access to their 9mm's, hence the knives.

DA backer ejected from court for alleged threats - Lawyer says he witnessed Victoria Peterson confront former player's mother
Herald-Sun, The (Durham, NC) - Wednesday, June 13, 2007
Author: WILLIAM F. WEST bwest@heraldsun.com; 419-6618

RALEIGH -- Victoria Peterson , a staunch supporter of Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong, was banned from attending the State Bar disciplinary hearing against Nifong after allegedly threatening the mother of former Duke lacrosse player Collin Finnerty.

Meanwhile, another Finnerty family member referred to Nifong as a "monster" and an "embarrassment."

The incident allegedly involving Peterson and Finnerty's mother occurred Tuesday after a lunch break and as spectators were re-entering the hearing site, the State Court of Appeals Building, 1 W. Morgan St.

Peterson was reportedly waiting in line at the security checkpoint near Mary Ellen Finnerty and Jim Cooney, an attorney for former Duke lacrosse player Reade Seligmann when, according to Cooney, Peterson touched Finnerty and asked, "Can I tell you something?"

Cooney said Peterson pointed her finger and told Finnerty, "There are a good number of people in Durham who think your son did something to her in that house. There should have been a trial and there should have been a jury trial so they could prove their innocence."

It's Wagstaff , Peterson, every single member of that group embracing Mangum...that is perpetuating vile, damaging stereotypes. Why have none of Duke's activist faculty confronted them?

To quote Cathy Davidson's 1994 NEW MELVILLE issue of AMERICAN LITERATURE back at her:
We don't need Cathy Davidson. "We already have full-scale obfuscators in the highest reaches of Duke University."

Whoopsy! Did she forget to mention it was her black brothers driving her around from place to place? They were not doing it for free. They made money off of her.

IIRC, BT dropped her off and then went to the DQ (or was it a Burger King? ) It is a good thing he didn't go get a pizza.
