Amazing that people hundreds of miles away could spot a hoax almost immediately, but the scholars and leaders of the Duke faculty fell for the story and endorsed it whole-heartedly or else said for months and months they couldn't say anything because the 'facts kept changing'... |

All organizations take on the character of their leader. The fiasco is a perfect example of that at Duke. Broadhead has said that the truth comes from disciplined inquiry. Yet he himself refused to partake in disciplined inquiry. The rest of the organization could not be expected to do otherwise. The fact that a few professors did is the exception. Walt-in-Durham |
