Of course he stabbed himself. Crystal would never stab anyone, or run anyone over, or set their house on fire... (Kim must be thanking her lucky stars to have gotten away from Crystal with such little collateral damage...) |

I knew it was a good day when Joan sprang out of bed already eloquent! Then I came home from the tax man in a bad humor and found all this. Edited by Payback, Apr 3 2011, 01:59 PM.

http://dukefactchecker.blogspot.com/2011/04/durham-police-arrest-crystal-gail.html Sunday, April 3, 2011 Crystal Gail Mangum, honors graduate of NC Central and Duke lacrosse party dancer, arrested on violent felony charges Breaking news: Crystal Gail Mangum, the Durham prostitute whose lies touched off the lacrosse hoax, is under arrest again -- this time charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to commit robbery and inflicting serious injury. Durham Police responded to 3507 Century Oaks Drive around 3:15 AM Sunday, finding a 46 year old man stabbed in the torso. One report says Mangum may have had a relationship with the man. Crystal, now 32, is an honors graduate of North Carolina Central, getting her diploma just months after a Duke lax party where she was hired as a stripper. She ignited the 2006 lax hoax by falsely crying rape. Durham's dishonest DA carried the charges forward until the state attorney general took over, declaring three lax players under indictment to be "innocent." Nifong himself was subsequently disbarred and convicted of criminal contempt of court, for which he served a symbolic one day in prison. Miss Mangum is in the county jail, no bond, court appearance Monday. Mangum escaped prosecution for her part in the hoax -- for example filing false police reports -- because the state attorney general considered her a loon. Before the hoax, she had been charged with attempted murder of a cop -- trying to run him down with a taxi cab that she stole. The felonies were reduced and she served probation. Last December, she was convicted of five misdemeanor charges, including child abuse. Originally charged with felonies including attempted murder, she had set fire to the house that she and her boyfriend were in, along with her three kids. Thank you Loyal Reader for the tip. |

How could you leave out "famous author"? Surely Cathy Davidson can round up enough of the female members of the Gang of 88 to picket the jailhouse? FREE NOTED AUTHOR, FREE NOTED AUTHOR. After all, Ms Mangum actually wrote every word of her own book and actually published it and held book signings in more than one strip joint. Edited by Payback, Apr 3 2011, 01:58 PM.

That is a real concern. What happens when her kids become teenagers and they can get into heated arguments? I shutter to think. They didn't even give her a slap on the wrists when she made serious false accusations against innocent students that lead to their indictment on charges that would have brought them 30 years each. And how did she repay this amazing kindness? She went and wrote a book where she continued the lies in a very public statement! And she even accused AG Cooper of hiding the truth. Let's not forget that the DPD through all their weight behind her despite the fact that she had stolen a cab only two years earlier and almost ran down a DPD Officer. They created this monster! North Carolina Assault – Laws & Penalties Felonious Assault with a Deadly Weapon A deadly weapon can be any weapon or tool that can cause death. This means that your vehicle, a firearm, knife, strangulation device, and many other objects could qualify. There are a few situations that qualify under this offense, each with their own classification and potential sentence. If the assault occurred and there was intent to kill resulting in serious bodily injury, the charge will be a Class C felony. Class C felonies are punishable by 44-92 months for first time offenders. This means if you have any prior convictions on your record, that sentence could potentially grow. If the assault occurred without the intent to kill but resulted in serious bodily injury, it would be considered a Class E felony. Class E felonies are punishable by 15-31 months in prison for a clean criminal record. If the offense occurred with intent to kill but not resulting in serious bodily injury it is also a Class E felony punishable by 15-31 months for a first time offense. From KC blog. False accuser Crystal Mangum was arrested, yet again, reports WTVD-11: Officers say they were called to the scene of a stabbing at a home located in 3000 block Century Oaks Drive, early Sunday. When police arrived they say they found a 46-year-old male who had been stabbed in the torso. The man was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of his serious injuries. Officers say they later arrested Mangum, 32, in a nearby apartment. Mangum is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. She is being held at the Durham County Jail on no bond. Investigators say Mangum is the victim's girlfriend, and believe the stabbing occurred during an argument. Will the Group of 88 rally to her defense? After all, in her apologia for the Group of 88's ad, Cathy Davidson reached out to Mangum, lionizing her as a figure deserving sympathy, "a single mother who takes off her clothes for hire partly to pay for tuition at a distinguished historically black college." |

How much money did Mangum receive from Victims funds (city, state, and federal)? Perhaps nothing. But it would not surprise me if she got funds from the federal government as a 'crime victim'. That would be getting federal money under false pretenses, etc. Not that she would ever be made to repay, or be charged with an offense for it... (and I imagine that Durham spent considerable sums on housing her, etc.) |

It was bound to happen again; the only surprise is that it happened so soon. A few random thoughts; 1) I wonder if Crystal is still on her psychiatric meds and getting psychiatric treatment for her bipolar disorder. At one point she was on seroquel and depakote. Bipolar patients who go off their meds can lose control in a short period of time. 2) If she did stab the guy (innocent until proven guilty), I think she may end up in prison for a longer period of time than her last incarceration. He defense will probably be mental illness, but I don't think that will fly. 3) One of the advantages of Crystal being in jail is that there will be no problem finding her for a deposition. Although she was not named in the civil lawsuits, she still can be deposed about , for example, her communications with Gottlieb, Himan, Linwood Wilson, and Mike Nifong. Another advanatage of her being in jail is that she would more likely get the psych treatment she needs. 4) Can you believe five years after the ill-fated party there are still new and strange developments in this case? |

Sidney's initial attempt at spinning the fire in the bath tub was that CGM conducted "a controlled burn". I'm guessing he goes with emergency appendectomy on this one. |

This was clearly a misdemeanor stabbing. Any talk of felony charges is reckless speculation. This good woman would never intentionally stab anyone. |

Thanks sdsgo. Surely she can't slide with a hand-slap on this one. I agree with Joan and others that she is escalating. She must think she's invincible considering her record without serious consequence. |
