(Jan. 11, 2011)
The coach of the University of Washington men's basketball team has addressed allegations one of his players raped a 16-year-old girl Saturday night.
"I want you to know it's something we take very serious at this point. It's very serious, however, there is not nearly enough information at this point for us to determine what is going to be done here," Lorenzo Romar said in a regularly scheduled news conference on Tuesday.

NOTE THAT THE PLAYER'S NAME IS NOT GIVEN TO THE PRESS. THE ACCUSED IS SHIELDED AS IS THE ACCUSER.

I too will refer to the Duke lacrosse team. Not saying that's what's happening here, just waiting for the facts to come out.

Prosecutors finish review of UW basketball player alleged rape case
Jan. 27, 2011
SEATTLE – The King County Prosecutors Office has finished reviewing an alleged rape case against a "prominent" University of Washington men's basketball player.
Authorities said they reviewed the case earlier this week but a decision about possible charges are not likely to come until next week. The current UW student and basketball player was accused of rape by a 16-year-old girl earlier this month. According to the girl's family members, the pair began talking through Facebook and met at a McDonalds restaurant. From there, they stopped at a liquor store and went to an apartment where the alleged incident took place, said family members. After the police investigation was opened, UW head basketball coach Lorenzo Romar said there was not enough evidence to act on the allegations.

How is anyone being protected? The process is working. The police received a complaint, they investigated, sent what they found to the prosecutor who will determine if charges are in order. It's called due process and it's kind of important here. Unless you liked how they handled the situation at Duke a few years ago better.

SEATTLE GOT THROUGH THE ENTIRE CASE WITHOUT NAMING THE ACCUSED, WITHOUT POSTING HIS MUG SHOTS, WITHOUT TARNISHING HIM ON THE NET.
AND THE DA DIDN'T PROSECUTE THE CASE BECAUSE THE ACCUSER 'HAD A RIGHT TO HER DAY IN COURT".
AND HE DIDN'T SAY HE HAD AN "OBLIGATION" TO TRY THE CASE.
