Energy-Efficient Buildings Should Cost More, Government Says

Tuesday, June 14, 2011
By Susan Jones
(CNSNews.com) - The Obama administration believes that a building's energy efficiency should be factored into the price of that building.

With that goal in mind, the U.S. Department of Energy on Monday announced a new partnership with the Appraisal Foundation, a private group that provides industry standards for conducting real estate appraisals.

Under the new partnership, DOE will work with the Appraisal Foundation to help real estate appraisers “appropriately include energy performance and sustainability in valuations.”

"Providing appraisers with the tools to accurately include energy performance when they place a value on a commercial building will help American businesses and institutions save money by saving energy," said Secretary Chu. "If better performing buildings have a higher value, it will help enable the upfront investment for energy efficiency upgrades."

Through improvements in insulation, lighting and the use of daylight, windows, and heating and cooling systems, America's commercial buildings can be more energy efficient, which saves money for businesses and helps to make them more competitive, DOE said in a news release.

Because the initiative is expected to boost private sector spending on energy efficiency upgrades, it will create jobs and build a stronger economy, DOE said.

"This type of public-private partnership is critical to help advance energy efficiency, save companies money and create good paying jobs," said Penny Pritzker, chairman and CEO of Pritzker Realty Group, and a member of the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. "The greener we can make commercial properties, the more we increase their value and the more people we put to work."

According to DOE, commercial buildings accounted for about 20% of all the energy used in the United States in 2010. The Obama administration has set a goal of improving commercial building efficiency 20 percent by the year 2020

First off, the average monthly and annual utility costs are included in every residential real estate listing I’ve seen over the past 20 years.

Somebody buying a commercial property should be smart enough to check the operating expenses for the property, and any bankers loaning them funds will want to have that information also.

So the ONLY new news I see here is that Big Brother is spending more money in an effort to manage market pricing.

Two themes predominate: a cluelessness about how things work outside the Ivy League–Chicago–D.C. political nexus, and a sense that nothing is ever Barack Obama’s fault. In that regard, he has two legitimate mea culpas: One, Obama has never run a business, spent any considerable time off the public payroll or outside of politics, or spent any time with those who were once characterized as “clingers,” and thus cannot be expected to know much about how cars work, doctors are paid, illegal immigrants cross the border, or the basics of economics. Intelligence and achievement are instead measured solely in terms of what universities or the elite media decide. Second, at no point in his past soaring cursus honorum (Occidental, Columbia, Harvard Law Review, Chicago Law School, Chicago politics and organizing, the U.S. Senate) did anyone hold him to account, as in saying, “First, let us see exactly what you achieved that might justify yet another honor or promotion” — as in a stellar GPA, high LSAT score, brilliant law-review essay, a seminal tenure-winning book on the law, an award-winning law course, a landmark new community-organizing program, or a hallmark piece of senatorial legislation.

Therefore, it is not surprising that Obama (a) continues to say some rather strange things that seem naive and out of touch with the lives of average Americans to the point of absurdity, and (b) seems miffed that anyone might for the first time in his life dare to scrutinize his record, and collate what he said in 2008 and early 2009 with the reality of what has actually transpired by mid-2011.

Boehner Mocks Obama for Pinning Unemployment on ATMs Wednesday, June 15, 2011 By Matt Cover

(CNSNews.com) – House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) issued a mocking press release Wednesday chastising the president over remarks Obama made claiming that ATMs and airport ticket kiosks were partly to blame for persistently high unemployment.

The release, cheekily written from the point of view of an everyday ATM, poked fun at Obama for claiming that greater efficiency from automated machines like ATMs was to blame for high unemployment.

“This is a guest blog post from the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in your favorite convenience store near the Slurpee Machine,” Boehner’s press release said.

“I didn’t do it.”

If anyone is going to redistribute my wealth (that which remains since the government is currently taking it away at a fast rate), I would prefer it to be me...at least this way I can give it to those who are truly needy and who will use it wisely. The federal government has shown itself to be inept at determining both need and wise usage.

Perhaps it is a sign of the times. Real world accomplishments don't count. We are weighing "significance" over "actuality" or real physical objects. Our youth spend way to much time into "fantasy-land" on-line shooting mythical monsters instead of studying history and real monsters.

Look at Weiner. What an exercise in fantasy. My goodness go grab a girl & make love to her, don't send your photo & sexting. I know what my dad would have said, "What's wrong with him? Doesn't he know holding woman in your arms and dancing with her is great fun!" Of course he would have said go make love to your wife and only your wife. My mother would have been even more practical, a man & a woman can't be married if one is heading around the world and they don't see each other except rarely. Another sign of our diminishing family unit. Which is not to say a couple always has to be together or that work can't take you away.

It is just we are becoming so removed from reality & Obama is a perfect example. He has NO Clue how to get this country moving. He was such a horrible choice to be a President in a deep economic crisis. People got suckered into Hope & Change.

Until he goes we won't recover & every day he remains in office until he is voted out is another day lost. Jan 20, 2013 can't come soon enough

So true, so true.

I d not understand someone like Weiner....nor do I understand someone like Obama. I often feel as if I am a dinosaur who has outlived one's time. Unfortunately, I fear that my children are quickly coming to feel the same way about themselves.

Before all the entitlement programs ...one had to swallow their pride and ask for help from a charity that you would give to ...often a local church that they would attend in their community. Now we have government workers to help you go online (if you need help) and find all the entitlements those employees work so hard to hand out ...passing out billions people are not even qualified to receive.

Economic briefing returns to Obama's schedule

President Obama will be briefed by his economic team in the Oval Office on Wednesday, the first such meeting in more than a month.

The Hill newspaper reported last week that the once-daily economic briefings had disappeared from the president's schedule of late, even as new data have spurred growing pessimism about the direction of the economy....snipped

Remember when we started working and after a while wondered why the boss we had got promoted, even though we viewed him as rather incompetent? And remember the next job we had and more bosses who seemed to do nothing got big promotions and raises? The systems these people exist in seem to want the dumb leaders doing what they are told to do. The reward they get appears to them to be more power? But they are still told what to do. They make none of their own decisions.

Well, same with folks in politics. The higher they get in an office the more "people" (not us people) will tell them what to do. Then, we are all screwed. Obama is brilliant because people in power are saying he is. It has nothing to do with him being brilliant or not. IMO, the more he reads from TOTUS the happier his bosses are. He reads from TOTUS and there are no more 57 states and other gaffes that make him look like the idiot he is. They are happy when he plays golf. He cant be asked any questions by the press and show he knows nothing about what people think he knows. Obama is controlled by his bosses, his inner circle czars.

Obama thinks he is doing something but from simple observations the only contribution to this country he is making is taking the orders of others. If that was not true then why are so many people defending him and calling him brilliant? He has contributed nothing to this country that he can talk about....... without someone feeding him that info on his teleprompter.

God bless TOTUS.
