My guess. It was VP who went to the judge. She tried to say stuff to the judge in court, if I an remembering right, when this event happened. At that time the judge said no to her pleas. Yep, not a lawyer involved. Dont go that high up.

. Chatham, You can't walk into that court and speak to a Judge. I have concerns about the trial, from actual emails and credible persons - do you think I could get in there tomorrow to speak with Judge Jones? There are lots of people in that Durham Jail and they all have crises - kids with Birthdays, parents that are sick, visits from family they haven't seen in 30 years. If you go cell to cell, they all have personal crises. Every single one wants to plead their case and be out of Jail for the Holidays. Further, Victoria P. has no standing. Or I could've showed up and claimed to deliver a communique from Wagstaff saying that legal action will be pursued and Judge Jonesey will be sorry for ever crossing Wags. Signed Wags. I say it says a whole lot that we correctly predicted that the Judge was going to go behind the scenes and let out Darling, Ms. Black Panther. We predicted it within minutes of the report Wagstaff was sentenced. If the Public had open access to Judges, everyone would be visiting the courthouse the day after a verdict, or a sentence. Okay, I'll be back tomorrow to plead my case. . . . Edited by Mason, Dec 21 2010, 11:33 PM.

Matherly claimed on Saturday he was taking her money. It probably was the $200 fine. Knowing that I suspect Cowbell of being behind every evil deed in Durham, could he have spoken to the judge? Certainly the NC.NAACP could have intervened. |

Well, I did not quite mean all that as totally serious. Besides, one does not need a court room to chat with a judge. VP wanted to talk to the judge in court when this was going on and he said no to VP. That does not mean that she didnt say some thing later on to change his mind. Any dufus attorney could then represent wagstaff to get that quick exit from the jail. But I dont know. I am only guessing that VP can talk to just about anyone anywhere without an invite to do so. She did it to wral live on the air during the nifong hearing. And she has been kicked out of council meetings because of that. SO I am guessing she had some hand in wagstaff being released early. |

Look at it this way - Wagstaff has political connections - as a former office holder she would know all sorts of people. My guess is that the pity card or the "how can we have a former office holder in jail on a contempt citation that a number of people in the Durham community question" was played in some form or another - thus her release. That she was not released in a day means (at least to my way of thinking) that Jones needed to save some face - or at least maintain the belief that he always has control of his courtroom. I never thought she would serve the entire sentence - frankly, giving Durham justice, what surprised me that she spent even one night in the lock-up as I expected her to be out by eight that evening. |

It was most probably a sham from the beginning. The judge issued an order verbally. The written order entered into the court record was entirely different. The written order, of course, prevails. The public doesn't know better and the judge knows the press will never know the difference. |

I don't recall reading in this thread whether or not Vince Clark was at the trial. Has Blatherly become Crystal's new press agent through the Durham blog? |

We need Lodge Pro to edit the title of this thread to include the date for last year's trial. Like abb did on the new Crystal Arrested thread. Because I anticipate a lot of discussion of this new, upcoming trial, and we will need to start another thread. |
