The financial cures that have progressed over the years creates a system that - as Joan described so well - DIVIDES society more. The system certainly does NOT teach self-reliance. |

When the Percentage of Voters-On-Welfare reaches a critical value, which IMO is less than 50%, a society has reached the Point-Of-No-Return on its Decline-And-Fall-Curve. Are we there yet? IMO - Mahrud is. |

The guy is a pathological liar, just like Mangum, just like Nifong, just like Gottlieb, etc and a total hypocrite too. I am call him the "Blathering Idiot" Just before Mangum trial started, Matherly blogged about Mangum being presumed innocent until proven guilty AND we should keep in mind that she is a child of God. Somehow I seriously doubt he had the same open mind about Reade, Colin, and Dave. Edited by MikeZPU, Dec 20 2010, 12:07 PM.

Lets face it. Crystal supporters have runs in them. Jackie is not what she perceives herself as. She is just loud, like all the couple of folks in this clique. I believe we make more of her than Durham does. |

The joy of it all is that instead of beef tenderloin, ole Jackie may be eating pork and beans this Christmas. Sorry folks, I know it's ugly but I rest my case. No good deed goes unnoticed and Jackie's got noticed. |

Maybe like Dr. King's letter from the Birmingham jail, Jackie will give us her version of what it's like to be down for the cause. No offense to Dr. King. |

You mean like the NCNAACP wrote their letters from the Wake County Jail earlier this year? I did take that as an offense to Dr. King. |

http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/12/21/873888/wagstaffs-jail-time-cut-short.html Published Tue, Dec 21, 2010 04:53 AM Modified Mon, Dec 20, 2010 11:34 PM Wagstaff's jail time cut short DURHAM Former City Councilwoman Jackie Wagstaff will go free today after Superior Court Judge Abe Jones cut her jail term for contempt of court in half. Wagstaff wrote to Jones on Friday, apologizing for an outburst while Jones was speaking to the jury in Crystal Mangum's arson trial Wagstaff said, "This is ridiculous," after Jones sent the split jury back into deliberation for a third time Friday to try for a unanimous verdict on first-degree arson, Mangum's most serious charge. Mangum's attorney, Mani Dexter, had been asking Jones to declare a mistrial because of the hung jury. The judge eventually did that, but not before he ordered Wagstaff jailed for 10 days and levied a $200 fine. Wagstaff pleaded with Jones to let her spend Christmas at home. He cut her sentence to five days and removed the fine. "I thought it was equitable, and it was something I could do in the holiday spirit," Jones said. "I think I made my point." During her contempt of court hearing Friday, Wagstaff said her remark referred to part of a conversation with fellow Mangum supporter Victoria Peterson, not the judge's decision. Jones said that explanation strained credulity. Jones warned Wagstaff at the start of jury selection not to try to influence the jury, after she was seen exchanging greetings with a potential juror. Bailiff Scott Hodges testified about Wagstaff's ongoing disruptions during the three-week trial. At one point, Hodges confiscated Wagstaff's cell phone and charger from an electrical outlet in the courtroom when it buzzed several times and she failed to silence it. In her letter, Wagstaff said Hodges had "on occasion" told her and other Mangum supporters to keep their voices down. "I was never directly instructed by him in the court on a daily basis," she wrote. "That was as a group." jesse.deconto@newsobserver.com or 919-932-8760 |
