What happens now......will Cline's office retry Mangum or drop the case? The amount of taxpayer money spent on the honor grad boggles the mind.

snip....

The jury was unanimous regarding the misdemeanor charges. Mangum was found guilty on three counts of child abuse, one for injury to personal property and one for resisting arrest.

snip....
.

That's the only possible outcome.

Crystal reportedly has said she doesn't care about misdemeanors - BUT that was when it was believed the Arson charge would dictate the Contributing to the Delinquency of...

Not the Case anymore, Crystal.
It's highly unlikely those kids go back to her anytime soon since she was convicted on contributing to the Delinquency.

Good for those kids...

This will not be the last time we see CGM in court. She just can't help herself.

Someone said to me last week, she is the gift that keeps on giving.

As does the Durham "justice system."

I'm wondering because she has been convicted on the Child Abuse / Neglect if Crystal will be allowed to have her kids back? Or if the state will put them in a safe place?

What happens in terms of a sentence - is it reduced to time already served? What about her children? will they be in the custody of CPS or whatever it is called in Durham?

Two questions are now pertinent.

1.) Can a Durham jury be empaneled that would actually convict Crystial of any crime?
2.) Does Tracy Cline really want a conviction, or is all this just for show anyway?

Jury finds former Duke lacrosse accuser guilty in domestic dispute
Posted: 2:24 p.m. today

Durham, N.C. — A jury on Friday convicted Crystal Mangum, the Durham woman who falsely accused three Duke University lacrosse players of rape in 2006, on most charges related to a February domestic dispute.

Meanwhile, Superior Court Judge Abraham Jones declared a mistrial on an arson charge against Mangum – the most serious charge she faced – when jurors deadlocked and said they couldn't reach a unanimous verdict after hours of deliberations.

Mangum was found guilty of three counts of child abuse, injury to personal property and resisting a public officer. Jones still must sentence her on the charges.

The charges stemmed from a Feb. 18 incident in which police said she assaulted her boyfriend, Milton Walker, threatened to stab him and set some of his clothes on fire.

Mangum maintained that the pair had an argument and that he hit her, prompting one of her three children to call 911. Walker eventually backed up her story, saying he was responsible for the burned clothes and damage to the home.

As the jury deliberated and asked questions about the law, someone in the courtroom muttered "this is ridiculous," prompting Jones to hold an impromptu contempt hearing.

Deputies in the courtroom fingered Jackie Wagstaff for the statement. She is a former member of the Durham County Board of Education and the Durham City Council, and she is a Mangum supporter.

Deputies said Wagstaff and other Mangum supporters were disruptive throughout the two-week trial.

Although Wagstaff told Jones that her comment wasn't directed at Jones or the courtroom proceedings and apologized for any misunderstanding, Jones found her in contempt. He ordered her jailed for 10 days and fined her $200.

Prosecutors said they haven't decided whether to retry the arson case.

No, that new development in breaking up the charges... means that almost certainly DSS (or CPS) will only allow visitation for Crystal.

She has been convicted of contributing to the Delinquency of a minor.

However, these agencies have made some unusual head scratching decisions in the past.

WHAT?

The article is all wrong. Crystal admitted and Confessed on Tape to setting the Clothes on fire.

The Friends of Mangum twisted Milton's arm and he mealy mouthed some stuff -- but Crystal's attorney refused to subpoena him - showing something was definitely wrong with what he was going to say UNDER OATH.

How irresponsible is that reporting?

No mention of her video confession. No mention that Crystal didn't take the stand in her own defense, and no mention that Crystal first Lied on the Video. No mention that the Defense's only witness wasn't even at the scene.
No mention that Crystal's attorney did NOT subpoena Milton Walker, even though the Judge asked her on more than one occasion (outside the presence of the Jury) if she was going to do so.
