I'm going to take a more positive spin on the questions. If the judge said he would rule out neglect if not guilty on arson, perhaps the jury is trying to determine if the fire is enough to be considered neglect - putting the kids in harms way. If they answer is yes, that will encourage them to vote guilty on arson. I'm not sure how setting clothing on fire in a bathroom and leaving the room could not have an expected outcome of burning more than just the clothes. |

Durham has been suspending disbelief for a long time. This is O.J. all over again. |

. She also concealed the fire so it wouldn't be found. If this Jury thinks Crystal should be allowed to do her thing and endanger her kids (and the neighbors) and have the Cops stay out of it (remember, it was the Cops fault for reporting and then asking questions of the kids) - then Durham is in trouble. Raise the Durham Taxes to allow for the Crystal Exemption. . |

If this discussion gets loud the jury may be able to hear parts of it. The jury room is not sound proof. I could hear the jury twice when they were sequestered, laughing having a great time. SO noisy that the court cop had to knock on the door, open it and ask them to be quiet. |

. Here's a Simple Question. If Crystal walks out with a slap on the hand (another Misdemeanor conviction for her collection), is she more likely to continue her life of Drugs and Crime - or less likely. I saw Video of her smiling and laughing inappropriately in Court. I think I know the answer. Edited by Mason, Dec 16 2010, 04:33 PM.

Jones is asking lawyers when to resume court Friday. The sheriff's department said Northern Durham roads are starting to ice up now. half a minute ago via TweetDeck Current road conditions were the subject of the note Jones got before the jury was recalled. The question: When will roads be safe Friday? less than 20 seconds ago via TweetDeck A sheriff's lieutenant says black ice is expected Friday morning. He feels roads will clear up around noon. Jury being recalled. half a minute ago via TweetDeck Edited by Kerri P., Dec 16 2010, 04:35 PM.

IMO this is the correct answer. The jury does not need to know what the judge will end up doing. He could overturn the entire jury verdict if he wants. The jury should not have to worry what parts of the verdict, if any, may be inked by the judge. |

No, I dont believe so. But not being there in the court I cannot be sure. I do not believe the jury knows how the judge would react to those charges if the arson charge comes back not guilty and the 3 children's charges come back guilty. Because they are linked the judge decided early on that if the arson was not guilty then there is no way the children could have been neglected. I believe the jury is more about the consequences of any guilty charges rather than the crimes committed. They may just not want someone to serve a long time for these crimes. They want crystal guilty of as much as possible without necessarily sending her to prison for years. Time will tell. I am guessing only. |
