ADA McCullough also said in he opening that, CGM threaten to stab he boyfriend while the DPD were there.
He also said, CGM did not warn anyone, there was a fire burning in the bathroom while her children and DPD were there.

Dexter did not deny the basic facts of the case:

Not very smart for a Harvard lawyer, especially when her client has been quoted publicly as stating she didn't know who started the fire...or is that just a Billy Joel song?

But Dexter pins the blame on the officers for instigating the crimes

"The police made me do it" as little or as far as I know is not an available affirmative defense under North Carolina law.

However, for a Durham jury, it might cause them to have reasonable doubt (even though her attorney did not deny that it was Crystal who did these things).

Question: "My Mom's gonna die" - does that really mean

"My mom is threatening to kill her boyfriend and/or herself because she's acting crazy for the umpteen millionth time in front of us kids"? :jump:

This will not be in order-just fill in for the N&O post above.

Dexter- the kids call 911 because they were scared of Milton Walker.
Dexter- CM spent 88 days in jail and most of the charges were dropped.

CGM was in the front yard when Officer Hillary Thompson arrived. CM was throwing things, like a vacuum cleaner out in the yard.

So if I think my mom will go nuts again when her battered boyfriend comes back in the house, I would be fearful too, and run away

Dexter seems to think that the PD had no right to be there because, CM did not invite them into the house AND CM told them to leave she did not need them. :confus:

The officer said, they stayed because of the children and to find out (since CM wouldn't tell them) what was going on.

I am going to what we haven't heard in the press yet. Then I will come back to fill in.

CGM told PD when they were trying to arrest her that----SHE WAS PREGNANT!

Are they going for the "incompetent attorney" mistrial?

DURHAM -- Witnesses are now taking the stand in the Crystal Mangum arson trial in a Durham courthouse. Mangum is the woman who Attorney General Roy Cooper said falsely accused three members of the Duke lacrosse team of raping her.

(snip)

Mangum was in a bright yellow sweater taking notes as opening arguments began. Prosecutor Mark McCullough told the jury that all they'll have to do is listen to the evidence.

(snip)

"She set a fire in a dwelling which was occupied by her own children and where her boyfriend lived with her," said Mark McCullough, the prosecutor, said.

(snip)

Dexter said Mangum also had a procedure done the day before where she was given a considerable amount of morphine. Thompson, who was the first to take the stand, said Mangum mentioned her procedure when the officers were struggling to arrest her.

"She said she had had a procedure and our response was I remember, 'stop resisting,'" Thompson said.

I do wish they'd get that straight and say "Mangum is the woman who Attorney General Roy Cooper said falsely accused three members of the Duke lacrosse team of raping her."

They had no trouble saying the players were louts, rapists, swaggering, strutting macho, entitled, and thugs.

Or about discussing their home life, lifestyles, etc.

Mangum's past hardly gets a mention (in fact, it DOESN'T get a mention in the reports.)

MikeZPU: “Unfortunately, I bet she walks on the arson charge.”

Mani Dexter is simply blowing smoke. If you want to burn someone’s clothes, do it outside or in the fireplace. Mani would have valid argument if Crystal immediately told the police about the fire. Instead, she deliberately put the dwelling, her own children, and other people at serious risk by trying to outwait the police. Fortunately, no one got hurt, but the fire caused damage to the dwelling. (The bathtub is part of the dwelling.)

Crystal willfully and maliciously started a fire inside an inhabited dwelling of another and made no effort to contain the damage. State law holds people responsible for the natural consequences of their act.

“Never play with matches!”
All VIP points -- I sure hope she is held accountable for her actions,
which were willful and malicious.

I would argue again that Mangum most likely does not own the residence
but is rather renting. Can anyone verify this?

She was indeed setting fire to someone else's property, if she is renting.

CM had been to the hospital for what was a five day headache. At some point she had a spinal tap. They gave her morphine and oxi codeine.
Where have we heard this on before?
