Well, all we have now (from channel 14) is : Crystal Mangum is facing felony arson charges stemming from a February fire at her then-boyfriend's home. Her trial is scheduled to get underway this week. No idea what happened today. DURHAM – The woman at the center of the Duke lacrosse scandal was back in a Durham courtroom Monday. . Crystal made some statements to the Media today, evidently there was a continuance, it's unclear who asked for it. The word is she could still have a trial date this week - or it can be continued beyond. I am apt to believe it won't be this week. The arresting officer was scheduled in that courtroom today - I don't see any other appearances by that officer this week. I wonder if Crystal's handlers are being coy and just making noise about another court date this week. I suspect that Crystal's side is dictating and being catered to, just as they have in the past. They may have showed up and made some demands of the prosecutor - and left without an agreement and Crystal's dream team will get a court date more to their liking. No doubt they'll try to get the charges dropped again before any court date. . |

. Yes, I was told Crystal's groupies were there today to meet with the D.A. and pressure the Prosecutor to drop the charges against Crystal Gail Mangum. This is unbelievable. This is a woman that tried repeatedly to run over a Cop. . |

. Mangum back in court The Herald Sun 11/30/10 BY JOHN MCCANN jmccann@heraldsun.com; 419-6601 DURHAM — Crystal Mangum, the woman who wrongfully accused three Duke University lacrosse players in 2006 of rape, was back in court Monday on arson-related charges. Her case has garnered support from a group of local activists, who want Durham County District Attorney Tracey Cline to drop the charges against her. Mangum on Monday was joined at the Durham County Judicial Building by Victoria Peterson and other supporters including Jackie Wagstaff for what was supposed to be a court hearing about the status of Mangum’s expected trial. Mangum was arrested in February after police said she set fire to her boyfriend’s clothes after putting them in a bathtub. An attempted-murder charge was dropped, but Mangum still faces charges of first-degree arson, injury to personal property, resisting a public officer and — because her children were in the residence — three counts of contributing to the delinquency of juveniles. Mangum’s case Monday was put on standby so the judge could handle other courtroom matters, which led to an impromptu news conference in the fifth-floor lobby of Superior Court, where Mangum declared she’s been mistreated by the judicial system. She said she wants her case dismissed and can’t understand why that already hasn’t happened. She and her supporters say her ex-boyfriend is responsible for the February incident. On Monday, Cline said she would not talk about the matter because she does not comment on pending cases. Mangum’s jury trial was scheduled to start either Monday or Dec. 13. Because of alleged probation violations related to the February altercation, Mangum can’t have contact with her children except by phone or written correspondence. Thanksgiving just passed, Christmas is approaching, and keeping a mother away from her kids under these circumstances just isn’t right, Peterson said. Mangum said, “I have not seen my children, and they’ve suffered.” http://www.heraldsun.com/view/full_story/10479265/article-Mangum-back-in-court?instance=homesixthleft . |

. Actually seeing her kids and the Social Services stuff is a whole different track. Social Services deemed she was a danger to the children and they placed (and Crystal agreed) to rules that were created to guarantee the safety of the children. Crystal ignored that agreement and did what she wanted - and another agency in Durham reported it to social services. Crystal's extensive alcohol, drug, - and there is prostitution history (see Statements given to the DPD) - are other hurdles for her to be deemed a safe parent, aside from these charges. She is a an Ex-Con that stole a car and tried to run over a Cop, after all. . Edited by Mason, Nov 30 2010, 01:45 AM.
