The first shot of the lemonade wars begain started when government storm troopers found and destroyed the last vestiges of evil capitalism left in Portland Oregon.

When I travel to France I am constantly amazed by their open markets and food fairs. To watch them cook and sell their food on the street I am sadly reminded of our local California food nazis, our boards of health.

Gone are the days where the entrepreneur can prepare food or bake. All food must be either prepared in a certified & commercial kitchen or in enclosed on site in inspected tents.

However rebellion still exists mainly in Hispanic or Asian communities, but alas even they are having to succumb in their more organized community activities. It is up to the local taco trucks, who while they still have to be inspected and governed are part of the guerrilla food movement.

Oh my mouth still waters for the Chantilly France food market. If St. Peter said to me welcome this is heaven, I would smile and count my blessings.

Up the revolution to our little Lemonade girl!

Mason you are right, but here is the problem. I remember once as a cop, driving down a residential street and seeing some kids selling lemonade in front of their home. Later in that same day someone called in Ms. annonymous, called and wanted us to check to see if these children had permits to sell the lemonade. My sergeant told me to go check, I told my boss, not me, I will not check, my daughter did the same thing, not too long ago. I further told him these were children and the only people stopping were neighbors or people who regularly drive down that street. The people who stopped were all locals and their mother was on the front porch monitoring her children. Then I told him the whopper, that I had bought a cup of lemonade from the children and talked to their mother, my concern is that no perverts came by, some people are just plain and simple complainers, they seem to live to complain about anything and everything.

You can bet the farm that she understands what regulations do to business.

Lemonade stands get reprieve: Multnomah County Chairman Jeff Cogen apologizes for health inspection shutdown

No need to jack up the price of a glass of lemonade. Turns out kids won't have to shell out $120 for a health permit to run their lemonade stands after all.

Multnomah County's top elected official apologized Thursday for health inspectors who forced a 7-year-old girl to shut down her stand last week because she didn't have a food-safety permit.

Chairman Jeff Cogen also said he has directed county health department workers to use "professional discretion" in doing their jobs.

Inspectors told Julie Murphy and her mother, Maria Fife, to stop selling lemonade at the monthly Last Thursday arts festival in Northeast Portland last week. State law technically requires that even lemonade stands have temporary restaurant licenses, which cost $120 for one day....snipped

She learned at least one of two possible good lessons; 1) It's WHO you know, or 2) Regulations usually suck.

I hope she has a great time and realizes someday what she learned.
