Ex-lobbyist federally indicted http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0810/40700.html#ixzz0vlKCnHws Paul Magliocchetti, the founder of the now-defunct lobbying firm the PMA Group, was indicted Thursday in federal court in Alexandria, Va., on charges of making hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal conduit and corporate contributions. snip According to the 18-page indictment, Magliocchetti persuaded two Florida acquaintances to give to candidates and reimbursed the two by “designating them as members of PMA’s Board of Directors,” despite the fact that they “lived in Florida, never worked as lobbyists and never attended PMA board meetings.” The PMA Group, which specialized in procuring spending earmarks for its clients, went out of business in 2009 after being raided by federal agents. Many of the lobbyists employed by the firm have since moved on to other lobbying shops. PMA had ties to some of the most senior members of the House Appropriations Committee, including the late Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) and Rep. Peter Visclosky (D-Ind.). The firm, its employees — particularly Magliocchetti — and clients steered millions of dollars in campaign contributions to these lawmakers. PMA’s lobbying clients then received hundreds of millions of dollars in earmarks. PMA and the lawmakers denied any link between the contributions and earmarks, but federal investigators continue to dig into the case. Visclosky and his former chief of staff have been subpoenaed by a federal grand jury looking into the matter. After the federal raid, Magliocchetti moved to Florida, telling friends and former associates that he had retired from lobbying. Mark Magliocchetti, the ex-lobbyist’s son, pleaded guilty on Thursday to receiving between $120,000 and $200,000 from his brother and the PMA Group to cover the cost of campaign contributions that Paul Magliocchetti wanted made. Mark Magliocchetti’s wife was also involved in the scheme, according to federal court documents. snip Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0810/40700.html#ixzz0vm6ATOeB Edited by longstop, Aug 5 2010, 04:59 PM.

. How Murtha ever came to be a Congressman for Life is another mystery for me. What were people thinking? And the media has absolutely no interest in this... They have no interest in these type of scandals... might as well be Fannie Mae.. . |
