It apparently did a routine missed approach, you may remember the term TOGA, and was coming around for another try when it hit the side of the hills. Interestingly, the place where it crashed is apparently a Pak military Red Zone, where aircraft other than military are strictly prohibited. Here is a shot of where it crashed, from a distance, to give you an idea of the area and the terrain. ![]() Here is a shot of the plane at Manchester a while ago: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Airblue/Airbus-A321-231/1373746/L/ |

Probably unrelated but curious. This bird was struck by lightning on the reverse route in Dec 2008. http://avherald.com/h?article=412b8215 |

This is the first fatal incident for a 321, and really only the second incident overall. Here is the first non-fatal incident: http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=20030321-0 |
