I just do not understand why any candidate should be encouraged to drop out of a race before the convention for the nomination of their party for president. What am I missing?

Old lady your right about that, the super delegates can change their vote anytime before the convention. From what I know the super delegates don't cast an official vote until the convention. With that in mind, if you take the super delegates away from both Clinton and Obama, neither would have enough delegates to win. Had the ticket been Clinton/Obama, I believe the chances of both being POTUS would increase.

Truth Detector

I think the underlying issue is getting control of the Democrat Party away from the Clintons. She won all the states that historically must be won to win the Presidency. For some reason, the national party isn't putting much weight into that fact in this election. Obama won mostly red states so what will he do in the national election if he can't get the blue collar white vote. The Dems are making a big mistake putting all their eggs in one basket. They should let it play out through the convention. Hillary will never unite.
