.
Also, it's in the news pipe that Hillary has negotiated to Drop out Friday.

June 04, 2008

Rendell's reality check

Blunt as always, Pennsylvania's Governor tells NY1 News:

There's no bargaining. You don't bargain with the Presidential nominee. Even if you're Hillary Clinton and you have 18 million votes, you don't bargain.

Rendell was also refreshingly direct on the difficulty Bill Clinton would pose.

"The Obama campaign would have to make strict rules, you know, about what President Clinton could and could not do during the campaign... For example, the Obama campaign would have to control his schedule; where he would go into, what states," Rendell told Dominic Carter.

"You know, normally politicians don't want to be outshone. Well you know you've got Bill Clinton lurking in the background. But Hillary Clinton, a very charismatic figure for many Americans -- generally a lot of politicians don't like to put somebody like that on the ticket," said Rendell. "You know rule one for the vice president is make sure you never upstage the president, right? It's rule one. You know, Hillary Clinton in some ways couldn't help but upstage, even if she was trying not to"

They might have to make rules beyond the campaign as well since Bill has made a lot of money speaking to groups both in the US and out of it.

Perhaps she wants to be generous and supportive and offer to be VP, knowing that he will not invite her to do it. Then help the Obama campaign, but it loses and "if only he had asked Hillary to be VP, if only Hillary had been the candidate for President, if only..."

And she runs next time saying she did everything asked of her and more.

Hillary is really loathe to give in or give up her leverage. She was really pressured in a conference call with Party and Senate leaders and she relented.

Her staff is saying they were totally caught off guard by the news of her agreeing to give a speech announcing her support for Obama, and now the story may have changed once again as leaks from Hillary's camp are saying she may announce her support for Obama but retain her delegates.

Short of an anvil falling on her, Hillary will never fully quit. She's angling for some power, some seat at the table, or else she's going to do all she can, with a smile on her face of course, to ensure Obama loses. Perhaps her tack is to piss off her voters at Obama even more so they'll vote for McCain so she'll have a shot again in four years.

I agree. There is no way that Hillary and Bill are going to play second fiddle to anyone. It is not in their nature, and Bill Clinton these days has been quite volatile.

The best analogy I can use of the Clintons is that of the Snopes family in William Faulkner's book, The Hamlet. Once they move in, they stay there and take over.

Bill Clinton is not someone who will stay in the background or be subservient to anyone. If Obama puts the Clintons on the ticket, he will be sorry many times over. Yes, no doubt the ticket would win, but it would be an example of "be careful for what you wish, for you just might get it."

You are so right, Jez. It is not in Hillary's best interest for Obama to win. She will be 64 the next election cycle. If Obama were to win and get two terms, Hillary's political aspirations are over. Her best shot now is to see to it that Obama is defeated and in doing so, she does all of us a big favor. So to Hillary I say, keep on keeping on!

me reprogram my profile. I have received PMs since the new system has been in place. I don't understand why J cannot get through.

That does not indicate whether your PM is On or Off - that indicates whether you are on-line (signed in or not).

TD has to go into his Preferences at the top. I suspect that PMs are turned off for TD.
