They will avoid the penalties by not hiring part-time workers, you morons... They'll use temps or contractors instead. |

"...The Senate bill is being used as the basis for a final package President Barack Obama wants Congress to pass in the next few weeks." This is misleading. The only possibility they have at this time is for the House to pass the present Senate bill. They can tack on whatever they want, make promises for future changes... but there is no hope for them to start over with a Democratic or Obama made bill in the Senate. |

At which point I will be surprised if Obama does not immediately sign it into law... |

I wonder how this applies to Temp Agencies? I think there will be more temporary workers hired from Temp Agencies, which in turn will be more expensive. In fact I am not sure we won't be entering an era of permanent higher unemployment as businesses just won't hire. Better to have fewer employees than too many. Looking around California the business community has reacted to the mandates by our Legislature by hiring fewer employees. It has been an necessity. The growth of temp agencies has been dramatic in California. The real cost of having employees has to be considered by any business versus what they produce. Businesses love a good employee and for the most part you try and protect them. However If you can't make a profit with that employee why have them? It is something the Politicians never have to confront, they just mandate, tax, & spend. |

An increase in temp's would reduce job security, so they'd have to become "team players" for their temp agency ...or UNION, if they are to have anyone other than Big Brother they can count on. |

Well, you work full time for the temp agency, I guess. So the temp agency has to pay the fine or supply the health care. I guess... |

I have a radical idea. Let everyone buy their own insurance and get the responsibility off the backs of employers. Health insurance used to be a perk to be able to hire the best workers ("Co. X has better insurance so I'll go with that company). I agree with LTC, small businesses will start hiring contract workers or DBA's. |

A good example is those massive fines that airlines are now subject to for long runway delays. The airlines just cancel the flights now. We have seen these mass cancellations a few times already. It's completely impractical, at a busy airport, to return an airliner to the terminal... Unintended, but easily forseen, consequences of gov't busybodies meddling... |
