Yesterday, I received an envelop from the Census Bureau. I thought it was the short form of the census to complete. Fool, I. Rather, it was a chatty little note from the Census Bureau informing me that in a few weeks I would be receiving my census form to complete and how important it was for me to do so. Nopw, is it just me, or is this yet again another example of government waste. The Postal Service had to deliver how many of these (think of the manpower hours to sort and deliver)? Someone(s) - people employed as part of the stimulus???? - had to oversee the printing, stuffing, and sealing and posting of all these notes plus of course there was the franking (post was paid for by the US government - it said so on the envelop). All this on top of the expensive set of commercials that are running regarding the census - two more have been rolled out recently - another starring Ed Begley and crew that is only a little less incomprehensible than the first which made its debut Superbowl weekend and another which seems aged at the teenage crowd (last time I looked, there would be few teenage heads of households). God only knows what this cost the taxpayers - once again, government spending run amuk. I do not remember receiving such a missive last time I completed the census (I had the long form) or even the time before. Meanwhile, I read in our local paper that they cannot find enough people to fill the census enumerator posts nationwide. In Cincin they had a boatload of positions for which they were hiring. Yet, on the news last night, there was yet another report about the scarcity of jobs in this area. Amazing. Edited by cks, Mar 9 2010, 06:33 AM.

I got those also. One at my apartment, and one at my house. First thought was "How stupid can you get?" next was, "What did this cost?"... Letters to tell me that they are going to send me letters. |

All seem to agree, I got a letter telling me I will be getting a letter. This just seems to be a ploy to hire more people so the unemployment can go down. Yesterday, listening to a talk radio show a caller said she was unemployed, but had a job down the road. She applied to the census bureau and was hired for 9.75 per hr. She told them she could work anytime and as many hours as needed. They gave her 15 hours a week. Perhaps this way they can hire 3 people, to cover a 40 hour week, to get people off the unemployment rolls. |

Right and that is why any new unemployment numbers should be looked at as suspect. |
