http://johnsville.blogspot.com/2006/06/duke-lacrosse-scandal-benjamin-himan.html Handwritten Statement of Jarriel Lanier Johnson, Raleigh, NC. The driver for Crystal Gail Mangum made - 6:37 - 7:50 p.m. April 6, 2006 [statement starts on Friday, March 10, 2006] I was called by Crystal on March 10, 2006 to drive her to Holiday Inn Express in Wakefield. I picked her up at her parents house around 1:50 p.m. She said her appointment was a 2 p.m. We arrived at the hotel around 2:20 p.m. After I dropped her off I returned home. About 2:50 p.m. I left to pick Crystal up at the hotel. After we left the hotel we returned to her parents home. There we stayed for a couple of hours until about 7 p.m. At that time I asked her if we could go to my parents house so I could shower. With my parents being there we decided to come back to Durham. Once back in Durham we rode around for about half an hour, then we went to Forest Hill Park. We stayed there for about an hour or so. Then Crystal asked me if I would take her to Hillsborough. We got to Platinum around 11 or 12 where she went in and I remained in the car. Around 2 a.m. I go inside to find her, she asks if we can stay for about another hour. She then asks me if we can stay just one more hour. We leave at 4:30 when the club closes. She then tells me that she has a job at the Millennium Hotel. We get there at 5:15 a.m., where she goes in and I remain in the car. At about 6:15 a.m. she returns and I driver her back to her parent's home. We say good bye and I head back to Raleigh. I arrive at my parents home at 7 a.m. and go to bed. Around 2 p.m. that afternoon Crystal calls me asking if I could drive her that night. I agree and ask what time, she says around 4 p.m. As I get close to her parents house she calls me and says that Matt [Matthew Murchison, her boyfriend] is coming over to bring her something. I told her that I would wait until she called me at the the car wash on Fayetteville St. Around 5-5:30 p.m. she calls me and tells me that he's gone. About 5-10 minutes later I arrive at her parent's house. Her daughter lets me in. I sit there and play with her kids while Crystal is getting ready. Once she is ready we leave and ride around for about half an hour. We then go over to Forest Hills Park and sit and talk. Around 8 or 9 she asks if we could go to Raleigh to find this guy she met. I say okay. We drive around downtown Raleigh trying to find this guy. We have no luck so we decide to get a hotel room and wait to see if he calls. This is about 9 p.m. or so. We go to get something to at a Chinese place over on Wake Forest Rd. Once we get our food we take it back to the hotel and eat. After eating we get into bed and watch TC. While watching TV we engage in sexual intercourse. Around 12 a.m. I leave. I tell her to call me in the morning so I could pick her up. At around 11 a.m. Crystal calls me asking me to pick her up. I arrive at the hotel around 11:30 am. I call Crystal to see where she is and she tells me that she went for a walk. I drive up and down Lane St. trying to find her. She calls me back asking me to meet her at the hotel. When I arrive she is with an older gentleman that she says wants to see her perform. I go back down and wait in my car until I see the man come out. After I see him leave I go to the room and help Crystal gather her things. We then head over to my parents house and hang out for about 20 min. I told Crystal that I was going to wash my car and she suggest we go to one of the pay car washes. While there I began to wash my car while she talked on the phone. I then told her that I was taking her home. On the way to I-540 she told me she needed to use the bathroom and wanted me to pull over. Once I did she got out of the car and started walking down Creedmoor Rd. I pulled my car over and got out to chase her down. She told me to leave her alone. I went back to my car and pulled up in front of her. Once again I pulled over and asked her to get in. She again told me to leave her alone. I went up several yards and waited until she came towards me; again I asked her to get in the car. She then got in. We went back to my parents house where we talked it out. We sat on the couch for a little while and then went to my bedroom. While there we talked and she knocked over her drink which spilled on my phone. After that it was around 4-4:30 p.m. and I took Crystal back to her parent's house. Later on that night I noticed that my phone wasn't working properly. I called Crystal and told her that it was mess up. At that time she told me that she had a bachelor party to work that night, [No one ever said it was a batchelor party. ] and asked if I could drive. I agreed. Later on that night I couldn't get my phone to work and called her to let her know that it's not working and wouldn't be able to take her. She said that was okay and that Brian would take her. I told her to call me when she got home and she said okay. About 1 a.m. or 1:30 a.m. I received a call from Tammy asking if I was Crystal's driver that night. [Why did she need a driver?] I told her no and she hung up. I tried calling Crystal for the next couple of days and didn't hear from her until Thursday. (Amended) : Looking at my datebook on my cell phone I realized that the dates that I engaged in sexual intercourse with Crystal was off by a week. our last encounter together was the Sunday prior. [Amended notes seem to be a specialty in Durham investigations. How many witnesses amended their notes? Crystal...Levicy...Jarriel Johnson...Gottlieb (who remembered his)...] |

What ten-year old, reading the above, would not get the impression that the lady was a working prostitute? How about a veteran police officer? How about a news reporter? Of course the press, which knew about her previous rape claim, her attempt to run over an officer, etc., still maintained that she was St. Crystal... Edited by Quasimodo, Mar 5 2010, 09:51 AM.

Brian Taylor (The "invisible man" of the case.) There is a brief interview with him by the N&O, at : http://www.newsobserver.com/1185/story/443932.html Published: May 27, 2006 12:30 AM Modified: May 27, 2006 03:10 AM Accuser seemed OK early on, driver says Anne Blythe, Staff Writer DURHAM - The man who drove the accuser in the Duke University lacrosse case to the team party said she did not seem intoxicated when he dropped her off that night. (snip) Taylor said he did not know how the woman, a 27-year-old N.C. Central University student with two children, got to his home March 13. But he said that when she arrived about 9 p.m., he noticed nothing unusual about her demeanor. He did not say whether they consumed any alcohol. Taylor had known for a while that his guest was a dancer. He and a male friend had watched her perform at clubs in Smithfield and Hillsborough. [But wasn't the lax party the first time she had danced before men?] (snip) "The deal was for me to take her over there for about a two-hour show," he said. "She was supposed to call me to come pick her up." Taylor did not hear from her again until 7 a.m. the next day. She was at Duke Hospital. "She was distraught," he said. "I could tell that she was crying. She asked me to pick up her kids." He said she didn't mention being attacked in that conversation or in a call more than a week later. "She just told me her name would be in the news," Taylor said. [Why did she expect her name would be in the news?] He said he did not check on the accuser's children or tell her parents where she was. "I told her I would, but I didn't," he said. "I don't know her that well." Taylor said he has not seen the accuser since that night. Police came to his home weeks ago and asked him to make a statement. [Has anyone a copy of this statement?] (snip) |

"Taylor said he did not know how the woman, a 27-year-old N.C. Central University student with two children, got to his home March 13. But he said that when she arrived about 9 p.m., he noticed nothing unusual about her demeanor. He did not say whether they consumed any alcohol." SC: This was one of a lengthy sequence of lies concerning the timing of Crystal's and Brian's movements on the evening in question. When Daddy Travis first went on television,he claimed that Crystal had been with him till after ten-thirty that night and she was cold sober when she left;she had drunk nothing but a small amount of grapefruit juice the entire evening. Further,he did not know how she had got to Brian's house (as her own driver's licence was suspended) and he did not know that she had gone back to dancing. This last is an interesting slip,as the family was simultaneously assuring the media that Crystal had never previously danced for a male audience. By the way, while I do not have the figures before me now,I spent a lot of time on the old LS(and at TL) getting the local Durham bloggers to time out the distance of a trip between Crystal's and Brian's homes and further the timings for the respective distance between both Crystal's and Brian's homes and the Lacrosse house. It developed exactly as I suspected.Crystal can get to the Lacrosse house from home in under fifteen minutes under crowded traffic conditions. On the other hand it would take her over forty minutes to reach Brian's and another forty minutes to get back to the Duke house froom there by the shotest possible route.Whether she arrived at Brian's pad at nine ,as he claimed ,or at approximately eleven-ten,according to the Travis reckoning and regardless of her mode of transportation, she was due at the Lacrosse party at 11 p.m. and chose to go forty minutes out of her way to meet the driver she hired when all she had to do was ask him to pick her up at her place on what would have well been under a comfortable fifteen minutes under the best travel conditions. For whatever still undisclosed reasons none of these three people could have been telliing the truth about their movements on the night of the party. Brian's first version has Crystal showering and modelling her extremely scanty costumes for him up till after ten-thirty.(She has two costumes-such as they are-and it takes them ninety minutes plus to see her through a shower and a bikini costume switch?) Then they got lost and spent most of an hour trying to find North Buchanan. Again this is very odd.Brian is a professional Durham driver but he cannot find a main Durham thoroughfare and, further, he does (according to this first, still unrevised, version of the story) carry a map of Durham. It gets even stranger when it developed, according to Melissa, the booker,Brian, not Crystal is the one who set up the date.Mellissa conveyed the news to Tammy who managed to get in touch with Crystal who then got back to Brian.According to Mellissa's version Brian knew where he was going from the middle of the afternoon. On this time table Crystal could have met Brian as early as seven-thirty(There is actually a second short phone call to him around eight-thirty). In a third version which Crystal and Brian gave Linwood Wilson the following December(who knows how many more alternative stories may be out there?),Travis took Crystal to Brian's around nine o'clock and Kim Pitmann with whom Crystal had worked before (as alleged to Linwood) called up giving Crystal directions on how to reach the Duke house and they were not late but arrived shortly after eleven(an absolutely impossible time table on the basis of Crystal's phone records(she last signed off around 11;40) and Brian's gas and pop purchases at an adjacent service station. Whyever Brian and Crystal were late and however they may have been spending ,it clearly was not because they were lost and there seems no known reason why they could not have reached the Duke house by eleven if they so desired. The most plausable hypothesis, and it is the only one which explains why Crystal went to Brian, rather than having Brian come for her,is that she had a prior engagement with some johns who lived closer to Brian's pad than to the Duke house, that things were going well there but taking longer than anticipated, and that she and Brian would actually have lost money if they showed up at the second party on time. And she did not call him at seven the next morning to ask him to take custody of her kids(would even Crystal hand over her children to an allegedly near total stranger?) but to split up the gross profits which Brian was holding,or perhaps, the hoax was therein born as well. On any theory,Brian knows Crystal much better and longer than he represents and he may well be her steady pimp. He is certainly a stock and convenient witness who is ready to lie for her on call.(He and Jarriel were the only two witnesses on whom Crystal chose to rely at her press conference. And all they had to say that night was that she really is a dancer, not a prostitute, yeah man. |

It would be interesting if that prior engagement turned out to be with NCCU students, perhaps at an NCCU frat party (?), as per an early (and very UNSUBSTANTIATED!) rumor. (Of course, that would have destroyed the entire narrative at the outset.) |

The DPD put their entire reputation on the line for a prostitute who was guilty of grand theft auto and who was almost a cop killer. Did ole Ronny Boy "we wouldn't be here if the evidence wasn't strong" Hodge read this statement by Jarriel? The DPD has not been held accountable in any way, shape, or form for their egregious actions in this case. No one at the DPD was ever disciplined or any way sanctioned for all the crap they pulled. The DPD needs to be found civilly liable for their outrageous actions in this case. |
