AP reporting that two air controllers suspended (not fired). They brought kids to work at JFK airport and let them work as air controller talking to the pilots and clearing for take off? Where is the judgment? This after the other idiot was laughing about dad cats on the runway and the plane and sighseeing helicopter crasher???? Wish Ronald Regan was around to fire all of them. As planes waited to take off from Kennedy Airport, the jargon-packed radio chatter between controllers and pilots was interrupted by a young boy’s voice: “JetBlue 171, cleared for takeoff.” An air traffic controller who brought his son to work let the youngster read a few routine messages to pilots — and then brought in another child the next day — in an incident that amused pilots but not the Federal Aviation Administration. Authorities suspended the controller and a supervisor Wednesday after a recording of the radio calls was posted on the Internet, then reported by a Boston television station. “This lapse in judgment not only violated FAA’s own policies, but common-sense standards for professional conduct. These kinds of distractions are totally unacceptable,” FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt said in a statement. “This kind of behavior does not reflect the true caliber of our work force.” During his visit, the boy got to squeak out a few more instructions to pilots before signing off, including telling the crew aboard a departing Aero Mexico flight, “Adios, amigos.” On the recording, which lasts about a minute, the elementary-school-age boy appears to repeat instructions fed to him by his father. At no time does the child tell aircraft how to maneuver in flight. At the time, pilots appeared delighted. “I wish I could bring my kid to work,” one said. snip Edited by brittany, Mar 4 2010, 08:39 AM.

Taking your kid to work day gone wild! Not exactly the same as letting them run the copier or sort the mail! More stupid humans. |

Well, I don't think there was any real danger, but they broke the law on several levels...and it just wasn't a good idea. I suppose having done it for one child, he had to bring in the other one or he'd never hear the end of it at home... |

They don't need any more distractions in the air tower. Lives are at stake. |

Another stupid "feel good" activity. There is enough danger in flying to compound it with having kids play at a parent's job. What if said contoller had had his kid at the controls the day that Captain Sullenberger had to depend on the air traffic controllers in his split second decision as to where to land the plane after the bird strike? |
