tsunami watch:

Notice that the wave will hit west coast of US 13+ hours after the quake hit.

IIRC the angle of the wave affects its strength, so I think the west coast won't have huge waves, but they will be strong. We have advisories here in southern Calif.:

This site has live web cams looking at the beach and is a feed from local TV station, Channel 2, in Hawaii

Note you can go to the web site from Channel 2 and see better quality and full screen it!

I'm watching http://www.ustream.tv/cbsnews

There is a very good local reporter (weather?) reporter who is knowlegable of normal local conditions and reporting on the signs he is seeing.

They have a live camera on Hilo bay, where the water is being very erratic.

so far it looks like the same guys who created the global warming models did the tsunami models. Although one should be careful.

I'm watching The Weather Channel right now and they said that CA & HI should be getting ready for this Tsunami. CA you are now under a Tsunami Advisory, while HI is under a warning.

They just stated that the Tsunami is coming your way so stay off of the beaches.

I'm very happy to say that very little happened here in San Diego, California. There was a bit of a tidal surge, basically having 2 hours of low tide/high tide action occuring in 10 minutes. I haven't heard of any problems.

My friend in Santiago had some damage, but he and his family are okay.

Lots of infrastructure damage. It's a very good thing that Chile was much better prepared for an earthquake than Haiti.

Quake-triggered tsunami rushes ashore in Hawaii
Posted: Today at 5:48 p.m.
Updated: Today at 7:25 p.m.

HILO, Hawaii — A tsunami triggered by the Chilean earthquake sent a surge of water ashore in Hawaii, California and islands in the South Pacific on Saturday as the waves continued onto Alaska and parts of Asia.

There were no immediate reports of widespread damage, injuries or deaths in the U.S. or in the Pacific islands, but a tsunami that swamped a village on an island off Chile killed at least five people and left 11 missing.

In Hawaii, water began pulling away from shore off Hilo Bay on the Big Island just before noon, exposing reefs and sending dark streaks of muddy, sandy water offshore. Waves later washed over Coconut Island, a small park off Hilo's coast.
