Didn't the UC system do away with racial preferences several years ago? Or am I hallucinating? |

So it was a planned event by the self named "Jiggabojones" As posted before- graphic language http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y95G-LH885Y&feature=channel Pretty Pathetic! It was all junk from the start to the finish. From this jackass to the idiots who hung the noose to the "activists" who used it. |

Yes and no. UC is supposed to be open to the top 10% of graduating high school seniors in California. A few years ago affirmative action was removed, and GPA, SAT, ACT scores were supposed to be used to keep the admissions process color blind as well as including tools such as leadership and overcoming challenges in the addmissions process. The state also add other tools to increase the admissions of "underrepresented minorities" at UC such as taking the top 4% from each high school in California regardless of whether those kids are in the top 10% of graduating high school seniors. . I only hope this poor child feels safe tonight. "Whatever the intent of the authors of this act, it was a despicable expression of racial hatred, and we are outraged," the UC statement said. "It has no place in civilized society, and it will not be tolerated." To blacks, a noose recalls the days of widespread racism and lynchings. "How am I supposed to walk into that building? How am I ever going to be safe there?" said ethnic studies major Cheyenne Stevens, who is black. . Edited by Mason, Mar 1 2010, 06:27 PM.

Gee Baldo you were right about the language. The man had a point though, he seems more POed at the BSU and the UCSD faculity and administration for making a big deal out of this. Funny part was, I've been doing this since I got out of the pen. |

. The Noose hoax isn't really making the news though, sound familiar? The articles for days said the Nooser was being held in custody and being investigated. She wasn't held in custody - another lie! . |

Well, they've already agreed to some of the 32 demands. Like Jena, this behavior pays. And like Jena and the W.VA case (and the Duke case) money is being paid behind the scenes. National organizations are supporting the leaders of this event at UCSD, dollars to donuts. Since California is broke, who do you think ends up paying for it? . Edited by Mason, Mar 1 2010, 07:06 PM.

"How am I supposed to walk into that building? How am I ever going to be safe there?" said ethnic studies major Cheyenne Stevens, who is black. Doesn't this sound familiar? Members of the Duke faculty quoted black Duke students virtually saying the same thing in their listening statement. Haven't we learned anything from these events? |

"I know what I did was offensive -- regardless of my intentions -- I am just trying to say I’m sorry. As a minority student who sympathizes with the students that have been affected by the recent issues on campus, I am distraught to know that I have unintentionally added to their pain," wrote the student, who was suspended Friday and remains under investigation by campus police for a possible hate crime." http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2010/03/student-apologizes-for-ucsd-noose-says-no-racist-intent.html Edited by Baldo, Mar 1 2010, 11:13 PM.

How about fraud, as the crime here, they certainly got those 32 demands out there fast. TexasMom, I think most of us were on the same page here. |

I don't know why whoever found the noose didn't just throw it in the trash. Why give the perpetrator the satisfaction of causing a stir (if that was in fact the original intention). |

I have been out of the loop ( NOT a racist comment) for several days and just read this thread. I am absolutely distressed at the conjecturing and diatribe when the facts were not even known. If we should have learned anything at all from the Lacrosse saga, it should be to WAIT until the facts are in. But no. Here we are, some very intelligent, perceptive, educated posters...ready to take no prisoners... and we learn that it was just a gal playing with a rope who left it hanging over her desk. And everybody... in San Diego, and on Liestoppers... projected onto that rope his/ hers/ their own emotional and cultural meaning. How in the world can we expect the rest of the world to stop doing that, if we can't? |

The AP finally put out an article on it! Guess what they left out? UCSD student who hung noose in library apologizes The Associated Press Posted: 03/01/2010 07:04:49 PM PST Updated: 03/01/2010 07:04:50 PM PST SAN DIEGO—The University of California, San Diego student who triggered angry protests and charges of racism by hanging a noose from a bookcase in the campus' main library, has apologized. The student wrote in a letter published Monday on the front page of the university newspaper that she and friends had fashioned a noose as they played with a rope, and she had accidentally left it in the library. She said the prank did not have any racist intent and said she was distraught at the offense it caused. She termed it a "stupid mistake." The letter was signed "anonymous UCSD student." The student was suspended on Friday and is under investigation by campus police for a possible hate crime. http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_14494411 Unbelievable! . |
