Well, there's not really a visible noose in the game hangman...

I'll bet you can get into a lot of trouble playing the game, though...

I used a blackboard. Although we did own the game once upon a time. There was a blue plastic man, but lost one of the parts and threw it out. I won't be playing it again.

Speaking of hanging, here is a tidbit of history.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Maledon
George Maledon (June 10, 1830-June 5, 1911) was a hangman aptly nicknamed "The Prince of Hangmen", who served in the federal court of Judge Isaac Parker.

It appears that a black rapper can not try to throw a ghetto party without white people getting in trouble over the party. It appears that a noose cannot be accidently left behind by a female minority in a library without white people getting blamed for it. How silly of us to think that a lot of people are not perfect.

I believe the perps explanation of "accidently left behind" the noose about as much as I believed Mike Nifong when he said he never interviewed CGM, never read any of the evidence reports and couldn't understand why the contents of CGM's cell phone would be of interest to the defense.

Neither pass the sniff test.
On the other hand, she is supposed to have confessed on her own initiative. There are some AMAZINGLY stupid people around...

About 30 years ago, I was working at a large (very large!) company. The guy in the office next to mine came to my office in my absence and fashioned a noose from the telephone cable - we were on friendly terms, and he was proud of his noose-making abilities. During lunch, I boasted to my other co-workers about owning such a useful object, and nobody seemed to mind. If I remember correctly, there were no Blacks in our group - though there were a couple of Chinese, a couple of Indians (including the immediate supervisor), a Jew or two - and several general-purpose WASPS. Nobody had any objections. So I (almost) can believe this girl's claims.

I agree, but it's all about the timing. A minority student coincidentally finding a noose in the midst of the party controversy is about on par with the gang of 88 claiming the "listening statement" had nothing to do with the lacrosse fake rape accusation

Can I ask, who was it that found the noose in the library? Was it the Indian guy, or was it a black person or an asian person or a latino or a white person? They are all pretty much minorities in southern California. I can remember who found the noose.

Darby that is a perfect analogy. Just because no one knew the party invitations were from a black rapper. So of course people would have thought it, the noose, was white racism. Just like the 88 did say the ad had nothing to do with the rape allegations. The difference is one was student driven while the other was faculty driven. Both were wrong. See what happens when one does not know all the facts of a situation and only assumes someone needs to be blamed before all the facts are in or someone is is at fault?

Personally, I dont think the student that found the noose assumed it was connected to the party. I believe they just found it scary or offensive. I believe that someone else tried to connect the dots and make this more of an issue than what it should have been. But I am willing to admit I could be wrong.

Loco B left over a Tiger Woods thread?

disappointing

By the way, did it ever occur to anybody [besides the Reverend Doctor Mrs Suess] that kids are using these symbols (swastikas, hoods, nooses) not because they are threatening violence but because they merely are obnoxious?

Quote:

Audrey Geisel, widow of Theodor Geisel, said the chancellor and campus librarian called her to inform her of the [hood] incident.

If her husband, who died in 1991, were alive, she said he would find the incident bizarre.

“The vast, vast majority (of students) are just the greatest – they’re just splendid, fine, period,” she said. “A little faction always exists in all places and they get a little carried away, I think. ‘Now, hear this — somebody’s paying attention’ — and they get kind of rambunctious.”
I left because there were certain posters saying that if (if!!) Elin was beating Tiger with a golf club and/or had thrown a cell phone at him either hitting or not hitting him, that it was his just deserts for being unfaithful and "he had it coming" or "she's smaller than him so it's OK" or "I did that once so I sympathize with her" or "he's not charging her with assault so it's over" and a dozen other excuses.

I maintained that hitting a spouse is illegal (unless done in self defense) and the law applies equally to men and women.

Recently I was laughing at the irony as people on this board were berating Crystal Mangum for her recent domestic altercation.

I am disappointed, no, I am fed up, with people making pronouncements about other people's characters. Disagree with me all you want, but impugning the character of another poster for his or her opinion is out of line

Absolutely right! Don't leave.I certainlly wouldn't leave if someone did it to me.

There were differences. Elin's kids weren't old enough to call the cops. Tiger's neighborhood was too rich for the cops to get in for an investigation. The cops didn't get there in time to be witnesses.

Other than that, domestic altercation is domestic altercation and one spouse threatening the other is one spouse threatening the other. It was funny to watch how people formed opinions on who they liked.

Welcome back, LB!

However, can we please leave the whole Tiger Wood thing alone. It is not worth rehashing. No one's mind is going to be changed.

At this point, it becomes an illustration of insanity - repeating the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. :uhoh: (Note: I'm not point fingers at anyone and please take the preceding sentence in the lighthearted spirit that is intended.)

I really wonder about some of these posters. Do they act like this in face to face public attacking people's character and good name and thinking that is an acceptable thing to do?
