Well, life goes on. We all do the best we can do. I really hated that Locomotive Breath left over the Tiger Woods thread. He was one of the few with more seniority than me on this issue. He was one of the very first over at FRee Republic and was a very prolific poster over there. He still can be found there, by the way. |

Loco B left over a Tiger Woods thread? disappointing By the way, did it ever occur to anybody [besides the Reverend Doctor Mrs Suess] that kids are using these symbols (swastikas, hoods, nooses) not because they are threatening violence but because they merely are obnoxious?

Interesting post. I concur with the spirit of the post - some things need to be ignored. Often young children act out in ways that would keep any good parent correcting and punishing all day long. Sometimes you have to say, go for it. If you don't get a rise out of me, you will quit. So it goes with some of this campus stuff. Young people are simply goofy at times - it's part of growing up. The stripper party at the lax house wasn't a good idea and lots of people suffered as a result. Some lessons are learned the hard way - it's life. |

Tex, I agree with you 100%. By the way, I don't give a damn about this thread or what happened on that campus. I do care about the friends I have made on this board. |

I missed this whole thread so I went back and read it. This whole thread is so confusing. I think it's above my pay grade. Sounds like an offensive, obnoxious invitation went out. Yes it was cruel. Joan is right about that. Kids can be cruel and can do really dumb things. The reaction sounds like "take back the Night" at Duke. Now it looks like it was a hoax with the intention to fuel the fire. 12 pages of threads. The 10 Commandments to live by are on one page! |

Well, it is ok for actual black Pimps and Hos to have a convention in Vegas, or for people to have an Erotic Sex Ball with all kinds of persuasions of freakniks in San Francisco, but a white group of college students can't have a tongue in cheek (pun intended) party mocking same. It's racist and insensitive. |

The pimps and hos and freakniks aren't a protected class. |

Well, that's just it. The party apparently had little to do with a bunch of white college kids...and mostly to do with a rapper promoting a project. |

It appears that a black rapper can not try to throw a ghetto party without white people getting in trouble over the party. It appears that a noose cannot be accidently left behind by a female minority in a library without white people getting blamed for it. How silly of us to think that a lot of people are not perfect. |

I believe the perps explanation of "accidently left behind" the noose about as much as I believed Mike Nifong when he said he never interviewed CGM, never read any of the evidence reports and couldn't understand why the contents of CGM's cell phone would be of interest to the defense. Neither pass the sniff test. |

On the other hand, she is supposed to have confessed on her own initiative. There are some AMAZINGLY stupid people around... About 30 years ago, I was working at a large (very large!) company. The guy in the office next to mine came to my office in my absence and fashioned a noose from the telephone cable - we were on friendly terms, and he was proud of his noose-making abilities. During lunch, I boasted to my other co-workers about owning such a useful object, and nobody seemed to mind. If I remember correctly, there were no Blacks in our group - though there were a couple of Chinese, a couple of Indians (including the immediate supervisor), a Jew or two - and several general-purpose WASPS. Nobody had any objections. So I (almost) can believe this girl's claims.

Oh well. I would suggest that if people sees a noose as a racist item then we should ban games like hangman. I guess I am just to naive to understand the relationship .... until someone brings it up. I mean I use something very similar to hang out my garlic to dry in the shade in the woods. Its called a slip knot. I am sure one of my customers could envision that as something it is not. |

I used hangman in the Sunday school class I taught. Reward for doing a good job. Kids all knew it and loved it. |
