Boeing's new 747-8F series made it's first flight today. This is the freighter version, with a shorter upper deck. The 8i passenger version will follow later. This was also the first full flight test of GE's next generation turbofan engines, GEnx. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4028/4341742117_f68152ebd0_o.jpg You can see what the 8i with the normal upper deck looks like here: http://www.newairplane.com/747/ GE's GEnx turbofan: http://www.geae.com/engines/commercial/genx/ Edited by LTC8K6, Feb 8 2010, 10:50 PM.

Yes, there is a rope tied to the rudder... It's a test device to measure air pressure away from the airplane itself. You can see one attached to the 787 during testing. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Boeing/Boeing-787-8-Dreamliner/1626254/L/ |
