Comments KING, N.C. -- Authorities lifted a curfew and alcohol restrictions in King on Sunday, but said a state of emergency declaration remained in effect until Monday.

Authorities said the state of emergency declaration would continue until Monday 9 a.m., barring any unforeseen circumstances or severe changes.

Effective Sunday afternoon, alcohol restrictions and a curfew were lifted. All other remaining restrictions would continue until Monday, said Paula May, King police chief.

Other restrictions include a ban on the sale or purchase of any type of firearm, ammunition, explosive or any possession of such items off a person's own premises. :uhoh:

Also on Sunday, the emergency shelter established by the American red Cross at West Stokes High School was closed.

"We appreciate the support and cooperation of everyone with our efforts to keep the citizens of King safe," May said.

The state of emergency was declared Friday due to severe weather.

A bit more authority than the founders had in mind, IMO.

It's my guess that the process to challenge such will leave them as is.

Are there any former DPD employees acting as the Police Chief now in King?

Have to choose your battles, so whether or not it is worth the cost would be the question that determines that answer.

I had to double check, the title, was that King, NC, USA or King, NK? So when you are snowbound in your home, you cannot have a gun for self defense? These people make no sense at all. Who was collecting all the guns and alcohol?

Thanks for posting LS, why don't they just take the mayor and council and ship them off to North Korea, they are always looking for some good dictators? Maybe Obama could make the Mayor the new Homeland Security Secretary?

This may just be the beginning of what is going to be a national problem. King, NC may go down in history, for starting this trend, unarm the citizens, then take complete control?
