Finished Andrew Young's book about the John and Elizabeth Edwards and his affair with Rielle Hunter. One almost feels as if one must take a shower after reading it. What is frightening is that there would be not just Andrew Young but so many others who would abandon any common sense and character to do any and everything to help a person attempt to realize his goal. No one, and I repeat no one in this book comes out with a smidgeon of honor. Bunny Mellon and Fred Baron, if Young is to be believed - and to be honest, the money to finance the meanderings of Young, his wife and children and Rielle Hunter HAD to come from somewhere and they were two people who were well heeled and who believed in Edwards enough to do so - seemingly engaged in questionable (from a tax standpoint if nothing else) financial transactions to the point that they were either stupid or mesmerized by Edwards. Elizabeth Edwards come off as a shrew at best. The Youngs themselves as so desirous of the afterglow that emanates from politicians that they were willing to do whatever was necessary to keep in Edwards' circle. Rielle Hunter is a looney tune with enough sense to know that she could call the shots when push came to shove - she has gotten what she wants (well almost) - a permanent relationship with Edwards. The book suffers from the usual "I" and breast beating that are the stuff of such books. It needed a good proof-reading as there are spelling errors and grammatical problems. He paints his wife as a siant but frankly she comes off as big a dolt as Young and desirous of the good life that being in the Edwards inner circle provided - as long as they were in his and Elizabeth's good graces. The one thing that the book will do - ultimately - is make it impossible for Edwards to return to public life in any meaningful way. EE and the Breck Boy deserve the hell that they have made for each other. What is a shame is that there are four children who will be forever tarred by their actions. |

Imus used a phrase the other morning to describe the political types who will do anything for who they perceive as their leader. He said these are the type people who could be the guards at Auschwitz. |

Absolutely - they will do anything for the person that they worship and will justify those actions on the grounds that they are making the world better. Young, Baron, Mellon all imbibed the Edwards aura. It will be interesting to see what the disposition will be of the sex tape - given that it is NC and lawyers there are such a club I will not be surprised if Rielle (read that to be Edwards) gets it back. |

It seems the relationship between Elizabeth and John Edwards was for Elizabeth to push John into a high level political career and John not wanting or being capable of doing that. |

I would agree that he was incapable of conceptualizing any coherent government programs or how the goals of such programs could be achieved. However, he wanted higher political office as much as she did - they both liked very much the perks that money and power brought. Look at the mansion that they built for themselves in North Carolina. He was brought up to believe that he could do no wrong - the "golden boy" as opposed to his brother, the "bad boy" who could do no good. |

A judge has held Young in contempt and has ordered the tape returned to Hunter. I believe it happened last Friday. |

Yes, the judge did but whether it can be returned (there are copies according to Young) is another matter. (By it I mean all copies). One is in the hands of the judge overseeing the grand jury which is investigating financial irregularities in the Edwards campaign. |

Is the grand jury judge the one who signed the order or was that in another court? |

It was the judge in another court. |
