http://www.bostonherald.com/news/columnists/view.bg?articleid=1230968 Hey Patrick Kennedy did you hear the one about.... Patrick “Patches” Kennedy is calling somebody else a “joke”? Does the phrase pot calling the kettle black come to mind? Or how about what the late Edward McCormack said to Patches’ dad, Edward Moore Kennedy, in his first campaign for the U.S. Senate back in 1962: “If your name were Edward Moore, your candidacy would be a joke.” Patches, if your name were - no, I take that back. Patches, you are a joke, period. You are the runt of the litter of the runt of the litter. And the applejack didn’t fall far from the tree. Scott Brown should have waited longer to get sworn into office? Hey Patches, your dad got sworn in the day after he was handed the Senate seat. When Patches got into politics, the family sent down handlers to, let’s be blunt, take care of him. One of them used to work for George Keverian at the State House, another was in the soft-drink business in western Mass. They’re both dead. Running for re-election? He has a 62 percent unfavorable rating statewide in Rhode Island. Those are Deval Patrick-type numbers. But that’s the least of Patches’ problems. The wheels have come off. Patches doesn’t need a campaign manager, he needs a guardian. Just ask Marsha Coakley. Forget all that stuff that happened a few years back - the crash in the CVS parking lot, almost running over some Capitol cops in D.C. on his way, allegedly, to a 3 a.m. vote. This goes a lot further. During the famous “traditional Easter weekend” in Palm Beach in 1991, Patches and Teddy ducked out of St. Edwards and walked down to Chuck & Harold’s on Royal Poinciana Way. It was 11:45 a.m. I saw the bar tab. In a half-hour, Teddy quaffed three Bloody Marys and Patches had three Long Island iced teas. This is not long after he’d gotten out of a detox center for his cocaine addiction, and he’s slopping down five-shot drinks, before noon. He’s never been all there. And to go after a guy like Scott Brown, who came up the hard way . . . well, that’s Patches for you. OK, his father’s gone and he’s sad. Stipulated. But where does he come up with these absurd comments, saying that seven out of 10 of Brown’s votes were from union families? Patches, do you realize that at least one or two of the Governor’s councilors got calls from pinky-ring thugs this week asking them to take a powder before the certification, so the hacks could claim there wasn’t a quorum and hold up Brown’s swearing-in? Enjoy these last months in public life, Patches. The joke’s on you. Edited by brittany, Feb 6 2010, 08:52 AM.

I think the Kennedy mystique (Harvard and Columbia, too) took a big hit when Caroline took that ill fated run for the NY Senate. She revealed herself as a not so smart inarticulate Kennedy in spite of her "fancy" education. Certainly, they all knew of her verbal tics. What was Ted thinking when he encouraged her to try and strong arm Governor Patterson for the job? I am still schocked Ted let her expose herself and the Kennedy's to ridicule. Of course, this incident only made Governor Sarah and her University of Idaho education stronger. I think we need to thank Caroline and Patrick for their hubris.

I would agree. Caroline Kennedy had carefully guarded her inability to speak off the cuff. It is essential, in the day and age, to possess that ability if one hopes to gain and keep public office. A senator has to go about pressing the flesh - this Caroline was unable to do and seem "authentic". While there are those of a certain generation who may have nurtured an image of her as "Princess Caroline", the fact is that time had marched on - a new generation did not have that mindset. While she probably had more "goodwill" when she tentatively threw her crown into the ring, that goodwill quickly disipated as it was revealed that despite her claims of being concerned about local and state issues, she had failed time and again to vote. Along with that was a failure to reveal her financial status - which is de rigeur in politics today. Then, unfortunately, her inarticulateness was revealed and played (via the internet) over and over. Finally, as a coup de grace - rumors of marital problems (an ongoing affair with someone high placed at The New York Times which had spoke glowingly of her candidacy) and the revelation that the Kennedys felt that the Senate just could not exist without a Kennedy in it (Vicki Kennedy would not cut it as she was a Kennedy by marriage only - and not well liked by the "real Kennedys") as it became obvious the Ted Kennedy was about to "shuffle off these mortal coils" riled the voters of New York and Governor Patterson who came to believe that he was being further diminished (if that was possible) by being "forced" into selecting Caroline (the thinking among the political elite was how could he refuse to appoint Caroline - the darling daughter of the Democratic icon JFK). The only way he could show that he was "in control" was to let Caroline dangle (sensing that momentum against her was building - for the reasons listed above) and hope (as did happen) that someone (in this case her children and husband) would say to her that she should withdraw as it was embarassing to her what was happening. In watching her brief foray into the rough and tumble of New York politics, it was obvious that she was discomforted by what she had to do (I believe that it is true that she is to a great extent a private person) and that her nervous tics, while tolerated by those near and dear to her, were a political liability when dealing with the public which is much less tolerant - particularly when said public feels that someone is being forced upon them for their own well being. Up until then, I liked Caroline. Now she is back in the shadows where she belongs. |

You know, that was the first time I'd ever heard Caroline speak. Boy, was that a shocker! Up until that moment, I'd been convinced that she was surely one of the smartest in that family because of the two books she'd co-authored. Of course, a lot of intelligent people are inarticulate - but the floundering 'ya know' blabber of her conversation was on the level of moronic. I was just floored. And when I then discovered that she hadn't even bothered to vote - that took the cake. A person who writes a book on the Bill of Rights can NOT be the same person who ignores those same rights. Which now leads me to believe that Caroline's 'literary skills' have to be as suspect as Obama's. Boy, it's not just Camelot that is having the green curtain yanked back on it. The press that fabricated this Camelot of lies is being exposed as well. (And it's about time.) Edited by Carolyn says, Feb 6 2010, 12:33 PM.

If Andrew Cuomo becomes Governor of NY, it will be another slap in the face (Kerry Kennedy's ex). |

If Patterson's extra curricular activities are true, the fact that they are reaching the light of day now should not surprise anyone - my bet is that the Cuomo hand is behind this - he is not above playing dirty....as his divorce makes evident. |

He is pulling out all the stops to launch his political career. The legal action against Bank of America is a testament to that. By the way, I don't know if this is currently the status, but he use to date the Food Network gal that does Semi Homemade, Sandra Lee. I suppose he is getting a heads up on all those "tablescapes" for the governor's mansion. |
