The spin would be that Bush was a racist and did not care about the suffering in this predominately Black nation. It would be that Bush was incompetent, stupid, could not even organize the powerful United States to bring relief to a nearby neighbor. It would be that the deaths of all these people were directly attributed to stupid, racist Bush. Sound about right? (And kudos and prayers for your son, dsl...you should be VERY proud) |

Exactly! That would be the media narrative force feeding the public. Who cared more about those people in Katrina? George Bush or the man a bikini-area hair away from being Obama's VP, John Edwards, who traveled to that area to announce his Presidential Campaign? . |

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/17/world/americas/17prexy.html?hp checkout the photo of Clinton, GW Bush and Obama, Obama's arms around both former Presidents. They are raising money to help. Guess Bush Sr. is too old and frail. This is why a sitting President should NEVER bad mouth a former president. Obama is an idiot. Describing the phone calls he made to the two men in the aftermath of the earthquake, he said: “They each asked the same simple question: ‘How can I help?’ ” It was a historic moment: Mr. Bush, in his first visit back to the White House since he left office, standing next to Mr. Obama, the man who during the presidential campaign had criticized Mr. Bush’s response to Hurricane Katrina. And, standing on the other side of Mr. Obama was Mr. Clinton, whose relationship with the president remains complicated after the bruising Democratic primary campaign against Hillary Rodham Clinton — now secretary of state. snip Edited by brittany, Jan 16 2010, 04:19 PM.

O is disgusting, I would donate a nickel to Clinton/Bush, only because of O. Maybe through the Red Cross. Another thought is: Who is in charge of this cluster pluck? This whole operation looks leaderless. They said there were 10,000 different NGO's working there, someone needs to coordinate the whole thing. I just saw on FOX, that they are having trouble getting aid to most of the residents. My list of priorities was water, food, medical, for supplies in that order. Then you need someone in charge of all the search and rescue teams. One thing I haven't heard about is porta-pots. Human waste can cause more disease and infections. Only God knows how many diseases these humanitarians will be exposed to, I hope there vaccinations are up to date. Foxlair45, I wish your son well on his efforts. |

Now we have Hillary Clinton flying in to tour the area, what a waste of manpower. She will be using up security and probaly some transportation for that tour. I guess this is just another photo-op, for Hillary? |

NYTimes While countries and relief agencies have showered aid on Haiti, little of it is reaching increasingly desperate Haitians who lack food, clean water or shelter. And there were reports of intensifying looting and violence, particularly around aid distribution points. The worst violence to date broke out in a warehouse district in central Port-au-Prince, where at least 1,000 rioters with makeshift weapons fought over whatever goods they could loot from shuttered houses and shops. Witnesses said the police left as things got worse. Fred Lavaud, who works on President René Préval’s security detail, described scenes of women who had received food being assaulted. “The problem is there’s no control,” he said. “And people are desperate.” |

Well, Hillary wants to set up communication, electricity and transportation, while that is good, but water, food and medicine, keep people alive. Electricity, communication and transportation won't help dead people. Hillary should have stayed home, she does not need to be in Haiti. Now it appears they need security. |

I just thought about this, back in the 90's when I was in the US Marine Corps reserve, I served at CnC Atlantic in Norfolk, VA. I was a monitor, for a test that the command was doing for their officers. The scenario, was just what happened in Haiti, a natural disaster on a Carribean Island, everything was down, no local support. The US Embassy was still standing. I was the monitor of the medical section. The National Command, the presidents rep. wanted a hospital ship to be deployed immediately. I remember distintly, the response from the medical section. We have a crew and the ship is ready to sail, we need to find medical personnel to mann the ship. I always wondered if that is what caused the delay in sending our Naval hospital ship the USS Comfort? Every one else were available immediately including an aircraft carrier and some cruisers and destroyers. CnCLant didn't not do to well on the medical ship though. This brings back ghost of the past, I don't remember what island it was, but the island was devestated. Back then all the NGO's were under the State Department, the military under the DOD. Evacuation of native civilian's had to be approved by the State Department, no matter what the DOD said. That is my reason for wondering who is in charge of what? http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/6822953/ Roanoke Rapids minister dies in rubble in Haiti Posted: Today at 2:09 p.m. Updated: Today at 5:00 p.m. Raleigh, N.C. — The Roanoke Rapids minister leading a humanitarian effort in Haiti died there Saturday, a spokesman for the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church said. The Rev. Sam Dixon and two others in leadership roles with the United Methodist Committee on Relief were at the Montana Hotel in Port-au-Prince Tuesday when a 7.0-magnitude earthquake rocked the city Tuesday. Reports that Dixon had been freed from the rubble safely Friday were incorrect, said Bill Norton, communications director of NCCUMC. The Rev. Clinton Rabb, head of the United Methodist office of mission volunteers, and the Rev. James Gulley, a former missionary, along with other mission and relief specialists were evacuated from Haiti Friday, Norton said. snip... |

This is a diaster in 2 ways, you cannot rescue people, when you have people running around with machete's trying to take your supplies or worst yet trying to kill you to get what they want. These people are desperate, they need Water, Food and Medicine, not what Hillary Clinton says "transportation, electricity and communication". Where are the smart people in this administration? Who is in charge in Haiti? The big "O" is clueless. |

My guess is that Hillary has no command over the situation beyond asking the one in charge what the status is. She's just blowin' smoke for the press. |

I sure hope she's not being put in harms way for some ridiculous stunt. I wouldn't put it past this admin - "Hey let's send Hillary! If she makes it maybe back in one piece then it's safe for us to go." |
