"Obama didn't wait long after Tuesday's devastating elections to give critics another reason to question his leadership, but this time the subject matter was more grim than a pair of governorships. After news broke out of the shooting at the Fort Hood Army post in Texas, the nation watched in horror as the toll of dead and injured climbed. The White House was notified immediately and by late afternoon, word went out that the president would speak about the incident prior to a previously scheduled appearance. At about 5 p.m., cable stations went to the president. The situation cled for not only his trademark eloquence, but also grace and perspective. http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/politics/A-Disconnected-President.html But instead of a somber chief executive offering reassuring words and expressions of sympathy and compassion, viewers saw a wildly disconnected and, inappropriately light president making introductory remarks. At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a "shout-out" to "Dr. Joe Medicine Crow -- that Congressional Medal of Honor winner." Three minutes in, the president spoke about the shooting, in measured and appropriate terms. Who is advising him? Anyone at home aware of the major news story of the previous hours had to have been stunned. An incident like this requires a scrapping of the early light banter. The president should apologize for the tone of his remarks, explain what has happened, express sympathy for those slain and appeal for calm and patience until all the facts are in. That's the least that should occur. Indeed, an argument could be made that Obama should have canceled the Indian event, out of respect for people having been murdered at an Army post a few hours before. That would have prevented any sort of jarring emotional switch at the event. Did the president's team not realize what sort of image they were presenting to the country at this moment? The disconnect between what Americans at home knew had been going on -- and the initial words coming out of their president's mouth was jolting, if not disturbing. |

His instincts are most telling. I was having a discussion with former Army Officer who related a discussion he had with a retired Army Colonel. They both agreed Obama couldn't pass the leadership course given to 2nd Lieutenants. Why have we elected former Military as Presidents? Because they are trained in Leadership. Please Amercia, no more community organizers as Presidents. What was he trained in? |

Besides being a narcissist he has massive case of arrested adolescence. The inappropriate affect yesterday was obvious. I try not to watch him, but yesterday when the TV announced comments coming up by the President I took a chance. I usually to feel disgust with his remarks, but yesterday it was a little like watching a train wreck. How much longer till he has a complete emotional break with reality? He really is a mess. |

The Bufffoon didn't even get the Shout-Out right....but no reporting from the MSM. Buffoon must be protected. "The Washington Post this afternoon reported "President Obama delivers remarks on Ft. Hood shooting at end of tribal leaders conference." The transcript begins: SPEAKER: PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA [*] OBAMA: Please, everybody, have a seat. Let me first of all just thank Ken and the entire Department of the Interior staff for organizing just an extraordinary conference. I want to thank my Cabinet members and senior administration officials who participated today. I hear that Dr. Joe Medicine Crow (ph) was around, and so I want to give a shout out to that Congressional Medal of Honor winner. It's good to see you. Ah, the dangers of giving shout outs without a teleprompter. Crow is not a Medal of Honor recipient. As noted by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society: The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. Generally presented to its recipient by the President of the United States of America in the name of Congress, it is often called the Congressional Medal of Honor. Crow's name is not included on the Society's Medal of Honor recipient list. He was, however, awarded the Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, in August. Obama, often described as "cerebral" by the mainstream media, should know the difference between the Medal of Honor and the Medal of Freedom, especially since he personally awarded the latter to Crow. Don't expect his blunder to receive wide coverage. It's not something he can blame George Bush for. Mr. Crow is indeed a wonderful story but he is not a Medal of Honor winner. His story was told in Ken Burns documentary. He deserves praise for his contributions in WW II. I do not minimize those in anyway and he won the Bronze star. However Congressional Medal of Honor Winners are extraordinary stories, not anecdotal. They usually are tales of great heroism and sacrifice and prolonged exposure to certain death for the benefit of their fellow soldiers. Military personnel know that winning one is not a shout out. Joseph Medicine Crow joined the army, becoming a scout in the 103rd Infantry Division. Whenever he went into battle, he wore his war paint beneath his uniform and a sacred eagle feather beneath his helmet. Medicine Crow completed all four tasks required to become a war chief. He touched a living enemy soldier and disarmed an enemy when he turned a corner and found himself face to face with a young German soldier: “ The collision knocked the German's weapon to the ground. Mr. Crow lowered his own weapon and the two fought hand-to-hand. In the end Mr. Crow got the best of the German, grabbing him by the neck and choking him. He was going to kill the German soldier on the spot when the man screamed out "momma." Mr. Crow then let him go. ” He also led a successful war party (3) and stole an enemy horse (4), making a midnight raid to steal the horses from a battalion of German officers (as he rode off, he sang a traditional Crow honor song.) He is the last member of the Crow tribe to become a war chief. Of his story, noted documentarian Ken Burns said, "The story of Joseph Medicine Crow is something I've wanted to tell for 20 years." Mr. Crow was interviewed and appeared in the 2007 Ken Burns PBS series The War, describing his World War II service. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Medicine_Crow (a) Criteria. The Medal of Honor, established by Joint Resolution of Congress, 12 July 1862 (amended by Act of 9 July 1918 and Act of 25 July 1963) is awarded in the name of Congress to a person who, while a member of the Army, distinguished himself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party. The deed performed must have been one of personal bravery or self-sacrifice so conspicuous as to clearly distinguish the individual above his comrades and must have involved risk of life. Incontestable proof of the performance of the service will be exacted and each recommendation for the award of this decoration will be considered on the standard of extraordinary merit... http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/cfr_2002/julqtr/32cfr578.4.htm For this reason many CMOH's are awarded posthumously. It does those incredible brave and courageous winners a disservice when we don't know what it means to be declared a Congressional Medal of Honor Winner. Truly Generals & Admirals defer to them in their presence no matter the rank. I attended an Army-Navy game where a CMOH Winner, an elderly former Army Sergeant was introduced. It was chilling to see the respect the Cadet Corp and the Midshipman had for him. It was as thunderous as scoring the winning TD in the last play. BTW all sports fans should attend one Army-Navy Game. It will touch your soul to see the Corp & the Middies march in. Edited by Baldo, Nov 6 2009, 09:59 AM.

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2009/11/our_clueless_c_in_c.html November 05, 2009 Our clueless C in C Clarice Feldman Twelve soldiers were murdered in cold blood at Fort Hood. Thirty others were wounded. Our Commander in Chief calls a press conference and begins it with a long thanks to the Interior Department and Indians who just concluded a conference and then gives a good natured "shout out" to an attendee , all with a studied nonchalance, before he even mentions the outrage on our military base. Linda Chavez calls it "Obama's pet goat moment." snip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0hiw8iXdMM&feature=player_embedded Notice him looking down at the podium as he’s making the comments. How convenient it was for CBS to cut out the part where he’s celebrating his outreach to Native Americans, which he called a “Top Priority”. Andrew Thomas adds: How do you believe our beloved President Obama would rank these in priority order? 1. The men & women of the US armed forces 2. His legislative priorities 3. Himself snip Edited by longstop, Nov 6 2009, 10:58 AM.

That video is really telling and I didn't get that he went on nonchalantly for over a minute before talking about the shooting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0hiw8iXdMM&feature=player_embedded His priorities show through and every military member should remember this. The shooting should have been the first comments coming out of his mouth. Remember our Troops in Afghanistan are still waiting! Edited by Baldo, Nov 6 2009, 11:20 AM.

We are being lead over a cliff by clueless rank amateurs who are so wrapped up in their Statist dreams they can't see the forest for the trees! The more time drifts along we see the sad results of the dumbed downed masses who voted in the ONE and the trouble now arriving at his office desk, pity his pen has run out of ink when it comes to supporting our troops! The guy just doesn't get it, we have a army in action in two theatres of operation and all he and Peloski are focussed on is spending us into oblivion with a health bill designed to control our every move! Obama it seems, is to much politics and speeches and NO real leadership ! The country requires a STATESMAN ,not some one who can read a teleprompter and do little else! |

I'm not even sure there are any of those critters around anymore. Michelle Bachman and Sara Palin look like the only ones willing to step up and fight back. It is a sorry state of affairs. Sadly, we're on the way to hell for the next 3 years. Our only hope is that 2010 mid-term elections will slow it down. |

Amazingly this is getting some play in the SF Bay Area. Ron Owens who has the top talk show is perplexed by Obama's speech. Owens is a decent fellow and tries to be fair. He is a big Obama supporter. He just said you have to wonder about his "disconnection" with this event. Gil Gross another KGO Talk Host in the afternoon was in studio and agreed. Callers are voicing disgust. |
