..Debate on the House floor had already begun when Obama strode into a closed-door meeting of the Democratic rank and file across the street from the Capitol to make a final personal appeal to them to pass his top domestic priority. Later, in an appearance at the White House, he(Obama) said he had told lawmakers, "to rise to this moment. Answer the call of history, and vote yes for health insurance reform for America." Participants also said Obama had referred to this week's shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, in which 13 people were killed. His remarks put in perspective that the hardships soldiers endure for the country are "what sacrifice really is," as opposed to "casting a vote that might lose an election for you," said Rep. Robert Andrews, D-N.J... http://apnews.myway.com/article/20091108/D9BR59EO0.html If this guy weird or what? The cost is going to be enormous, the government projections are alwas lower then the actual cost. So what wll 1.2 trillion dollars, projected over 10 years, expand to in actual cost over 10 years? Here is an example of what I am talking about. Medicare (hospital insurance). In 1965, as Congress considered legislation to establish a national Medicare program, the House Ways and Means Committee estimated that the hospital insurance portion of the program, Part A, would cost about $9 billion annually by 1990.v Actual Part A spending in 1990 was $67 billion. The actuary who provided the original cost estimates acknowledged in 1994 that, even after conservatively discounting for the unexpectedly high inflation rates of the early ‘70s and other factors, “the actual [Part A] experience was 165% higher than the estimate.” Medicare (entire program). In 1967, the House Ways and Means Committee predicted that the new Medicare program, launched the previous year, would cost about $12 billion in 1990. Actual Medicare spending in 1990 was $110 billion—off by nearly a factor of 10. Medicaid DSH program. In 1987, Congress estimated that Medicaid’s disproportionate share hospital (DSH) payments—which states use to provide relief to hospitals that serve especially large numbers of Medicaid and uninsured patients—would cost less than $1 billion in 1992. The actual cost that year was a staggering $17 billion. Among other things, federal lawmakers had failed to detect loopholes in the legislation that enabled states to draw significantly more money from the federal treasury than they would otherwise have been entitled to claim under the program’s traditional 50-50 funding scheme. Medicare home care benefit. When Congress debated changes to Medicare’s home care benefit in 1988, the projected 1993 cost of the benefit was $4 billion. The actual 1993 cost was more than twice that amount, $10 billion. |

With that vote last night, we have just anoited Obama, King of America, and we now have 535 lords and ladies in the house and senate. Just the fact that all these different procedures have to be approved by this Secretary or that Secretary is way over the top, the congress has set themselved up to be bowing to the King and Queen, in the not to distant future. |

Though this past the House hurdle - the Senate hurdle will be more difficult.....and thenit will be on to conference where, I predict, a bill will come out that will be defeated - closely, but still defeated. |

My Senators are Arlen Specter and Bob Casey . . . these two don't have a brain or a conscience between them. I don't hold out much hope for a no vote from either of them. But I will still be calling, faxing and tea partying. |

This whole thing seems to me to just be legalized eugenics. The older people die more quickly due to poorer health care and lengthened access time, and the unborn are killed off with just a simple tax. That reduces the cost of health care on both ends of the spectrum... the young, because they are not yet valued as tax "contributors" and the older because they require more expensive care. Clever, Obama, Reid, and Pelosis, but totally immoral. My disgust is not for these powermongers, but for the impotent and self-serving Congress who have no courage to see or to counteract this ethical cesspool. |

That's because they, congress, are all well paid get great pensions and will be able to afford expensive care in their old age. We need to cut their salaries, in half, and completely cut their pensions. The founders never expected, member of congress to make it a lifetime career. That's what we have now incumbents are always planning how to get re-elected, how many just step down at the end of a term, my guess would be less the 5%. How many serve 20 or more years? I never ever consider members of congress as serving their country, too many are serving themselves, I considered myself as serving my country, when I joined the Marines and was paid 104 dollars a month. 174,000 thousand dollars a month is in the top 10% of wage earners in this country. That is not service to this country, it is service to thyself. |

There's a lot of wisdom in this statement. Eugenics didn't die with Nazi Germany. |

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33748707/ns/politics-health_care_reform Big question mark: Fate of health care in Senate Landmark health insurance bill passes House late Saturday updated 4:04 p.m. ET, Sun., Nov . 8, 2009 WASHINGTON - The glow from a health care triumph faded quickly for President Barack Obama on Sunday as Democrats realized the bill they fought so hard to pass in the House has nowhere to go in the Senate. Speaking from the Rose Garden about 14 hours after the late Saturday vote, Obama urged senators to be like runners on a relay team and "take the baton and bring this effort to the finish line on behalf of the American people." The problem is that the Senate won't run with it. The government health insurance plan included in the House bill is unacceptable to a few Democratic moderates who hold the balance of power in the Senate. snip... ![]() U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, center, laughs next to Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, right, and Rep. http://reaganiterepublicanresistance.blogspot.com/ ObamaCare Endorsements Bought & Paid-For... Chicago Style Dick Morris has a useful summary today of the bribes that Team Obama have been dishing-out in order to pass socialized HC against rising public opposition... and perhaps save his floundering agenda. Did anyone believe for a minute they were endorsing this monstrosity on it's merits? The American Medical Association (AMA) was facing a pending 21% cut in physicians' reimbursements under the current law. Obama promised to kill the cut if they backed his bill... thus sparking outrage from the many doctors in opposition. The AARP got a financial windfall in return for its support of the healthcare bill... which explains what this group -which has morphed into a huge insurance company- endorsed ObamaCare against the wishes of a majority of it's members. Now -if this bill becomes law- the elderly will have to pay more for coverage under Medigap... but the AARP -which supposedly represents them- will make more money. The drug industry has backed ObamaCare and, in return, got a 10-year limit of $80 billion on cuts in prescription drug costs. (nothing for them, they project cca $3 trillion total cost over the next decade.) Insurance companies got access to 40 million potential new customers. But when the Senate Finance Committee lowered the fine that would be imposed on those who don't buy insurance from $3,500 to $1,500, the insurance companies jumped ship and now oppose the bill... The only medical industry that refused to surrender to the thuggish Obama and crew was the medical device makers... they took a principled stand and refused the Dear Leader's extortion attempts. So the Senate Finance Committee retaliated by imposing a tax on medical devices such as automated wheelchairs, pacemakers, arterial stents, prosthetic limbs, artificial knees and hips and other necessary accoutrements of healthcare. Not to mention how they bought votes by the most anti-democratic methods/borderline fraud imaginable- Exhibit A being how Pelosi's handpicked lackey Bill Owens was bankrolled and apparently instructed to make disingenuous pledges in the NY-23 special election -specifically stating that he's opposed to the public option- only to break four campaign promises in his first hour on the Hill and vote for PelosiCare anyway. Of course he will be tossed out in a year by an angry and regretful constituency, and likely replaced by Doug Hoffman... but Owens will get some cush job or retainers from the Dems for this appalling treachery and just fade-away... so what does he care, he's already shown us he's a morally bankrupt opportunist who doesn't mind lying to your face. end Another way of looking at Healthcare> http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/16642 snip With Saturday night’s passage of the US House of Representatives’ ObamaCare package (220-215), America was moved closer to the US Marxist (formerly Democrat) Party’s totalitarian control over the American people and 1/6 of their economy. snip Edited by longstop, Nov 9 2009, 10:29 AM.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33789865/ns/politics-health_care_reform Many senators unhappy with House health bill 'The House bill is dead on arrival in the Senate,' says GOP's Lindsey Graham updated 2 hours, 35 minutes ago WASHINGTON - Don't look for the Senate to quickly follow the House on health care overhaul. A government health insurance plan included in the House bill is unacceptable to a few Democratic moderates who hold the balance of power in the Senate. They're locked in a battle with liberals, with the fate of President Barack Obama's signature issue at stake. If a government plan is part of the deal, "as a matter of conscience, I will not allow this bill to come to a final vote," said Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Connecticut independent whose vote Democrats need to overcome GOP filibusters. snip.... |
