No, not the lax players. They had to pay the penalty. The lucky ones were : CGM--got a university degree and a book DPD--no investigation (no Whichard committee, no internal review) William Barber--promoted to a national position with the NAACP Gang of 88--still going, like the energizer bunny Pres. Brodhead--a model of spinelessness, who has cost his university millions, but still endorsed as president Board of Trustees--see above. Spineless, unwilling to take any corrective action at all to rectify obvious flaws in the university entrusted to their care Judges Stephens, Titus, Bushfan, Morey, Smith, Hudson--still "their honors" and on the bench Durham media--some people still consider these trustworthy reporters of the facts national media--see above Imagine pulling off a monster frame (hypothetically speaking, of course) and having one person spend one day in jail (and having that person be hugged by the AP reporter before entering the jail)... they all got lucky... |

Like the tortoise and the hare the race isn't over. However so far your observations are unfortunately correct! |

If Dickie had given each of the LAX players (in addition to RCD) some reasonable amount (they deserve compensation for the way Dickie threw them under the bus, and contributed greatly to the perception of guilt, not to mention the grave impact of one DUMC inSANE nurse), I would love to compare that to how much he's paid out to Gorelick and her firm so far, combined with how much he'll have to pay her and her firm when the case goes to trial. And can he really risk everything that will be exposed when they go to trial? For sure, Dickie is a "model of spinelessness." The student LAX players were the most vulnerable; they were powerless in this situation so he just threw them under the bus. What a gutless wimp. He wouldn't stand up to Nifong. He wouldn't stand up to the Group of 88 and other faculty members whose behavior was outrageous and who were abusing the LAX players both in and out of class. He wouldn't stand up to extremists in the AA community. He totally rolled over for the DPD. All the DPD had to do was ask Dickie to jump, and he was like just tell me how high. Gottlieb must have loved playing Dickie like a marionette -- Nifong too. He showed no leadership at any point. He showed cowering fear, self-pity, and callousness as well as poor judgment. While everything you just said is true, looking at this from a long range view, the above are also losers. For one, the entire nation watched this race card debacle blow up in the racists faces. *They were forced to back off, something that was almost unheard of before. *Books have been written, quite a bit of press, and not to mention the upcoming HBO movie. *Brodhead is a joke, and forever will be known as such in acedemia *THe 88 were exposed. If ever there was a world with a long memory, full of timid folks on both sides of the aisle and not prone to speaking up, its academia. Trust me on this one, the Duke LAX case is still only really beginning to sink in with some in academia. In short, they shined the light on the race card themselves, and the rest of America got to see it. Although they are safe for now, this case will forever be talked about, the lie is out there, and you can't put that toothpaste back into the tube. |
