In a column on Newsweek's Web site, the former Maryland lieutenant governor and member of the Kennedy clan says Obama's agenda reflects the views of American Catholics "much more closely than those vocal bishops and pro-life activists."

Townsend continues that Catholics in the U.S. aren't bothered by disagreements between the White House and the Vatican over reproductive rights and homosexuality because "they know Obama's on their side... [his] agenda is closer to their views than even the pope's."

Is Obama more Catholic than the Pope?

Without a Doubt
Why Barack Obama represents American Catholics better than the pope does.

By Kathleen Kennedy Townsend

Tomorrow Pope Benedict XVI and President Barack Obama meet for the first time, an affair much anticipated and in some circles frowned upon by American Catholics in the wake of Obama's controversial Notre Dame commencement speech in May. Conservatives in the church denounced Obama's appearance as a nod by the premier Catholic university to a conciliatory politics that heralds the start of a slippery moral slope.

In truth, though, Obama's pragmatic approach to divisive policy (his notion that we should acknowledge the good faith underlying opposing viewpoints) and his social-justice agenda reflect the views of American Catholic laity much more closely than those vocal bishops and pro-life activists. When Obama meets the pope tomorrow, they'll politely disagree about reproductive freedoms and homosexuality, but Catholics back home won't care, because they know Obama's on their side. In fact, Obama's agenda is closer to their views than even the pope's document gives moral credence to Obama's message and to progressive politics writ large...snipped

There are some serious mental disorders going around.

Kathleen Kennedy Townsend is one crazy woman to make that claim.

They are so crazy in Love with Obama that they can't make rational judgments! They mean Obama is holier than the Pope, he is greater, he is more filled with good.

Given the Kennedy family's history, I suspect that she should reconsider speaking about issues of morality. A new book coming out says that her father had an ongoing affair with her aunt, Jackie, which was known to all family insiders, including Ethel. If the Kennedy's hold themselves out to be authorities on Catholicism, they'd better clean up their own houses first.

As I understand it, Pope Benedict's recent statement is being spun like crazy by the media so that it makes Obama practically look like the inspiration for the pontiff. I think not! All of America has become Wonderland!

I don’t want them punished with an STD at age 16, so it doesn’t make sense to not give them information.” Obama the Holy

Are you kidding me, she is a Kennedy? She is a progressive, democrat. All of the so called Roman Catholic Kennedy's, disagree with the church all the time, what makes you think that Kathleen Kenndy was any different?

This article shows just how out of touch people inside the beltway really are. The Kennedys have always used religion as a gateway into politics and unfortunately there were plenty of bishops and cardinals in the late 50s and 60s that played the game.
