Michelle looked nice in the photo, very respectful, and wearing all black from what I could tell. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2009/07/10/2009-07-10_president_obama_has_first_meeting_with_pope_benedict_xvi.html Edited by foxglove, Jul 10 2009, 02:24 PM.

http://www.myembarq.com/news/read.php?ps=1018&rip_id=%3CD99BPNJ00%40news.ap.org%3E&_LT=HOME_LARSDCCLM_UNEWS Pope presses Obama on abortion, stem cells Friday, July 10, 2009 3:51 PM EDT VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Benedict XVI stressed the church's opposition to abortion and stem cell research in his first meeting with President Barack Obama on Friday, pressing the Vatican's case with the U.S. leader who is already under fire on those issues from some conservative Catholics and bishops back home. The 30-minute meeting Vatican audience was described by both sides as positive — constructive talks between two men who agree on helping the poor and pushing for Middle East peace but disagree on what the Vatican considers prime ethical issues. "It's a great honor," Obama said, greeting the pope and thanking him for this first meeting. Afterward, the Vatican said the leaders discussed immigration, the Middle East peace process and aid to developing nations. But the Vatican's statement also underscored the pair's deep disagreement on abortion. snip... |

The Pope gave Obama his manifesto, about the rich countries, sharing the wealth to the poor countries. That probably sounds like something Obama would agree with. Incase the Pope missed it our wealth is going down the drain. The Pope should be talking to China. |

I'm not sure why all the ladies wore black. It made me think they were going to a funeral instead of meeting the Pope. (Just my opinion.) |

I agree. The black dress Michelle Obama wore looked good and was respectful but it was not necessary for her to look like she was going to a funeral. I thought the Mantilla was a nice touch-- very dignified. |

Some of our Catholic friends might correct me here, but it is my impression that the black dress and covered arms and head are REQUIRED by the Vatican for any woman being granted an audience with the Pope. So I wouldn't credit MOBAMA with any great awakening about her wardrobe propriety. Further, I wish His Holiness had taken the opportuity to speak more with our POTUS about integrity, honesty, and respect for human life than to discuss foreign policy. I know the Pope made his statements, etc. but I'm sure he did not change Obama's mind. Because Obama has a deeply flawed spiritual corel. What else would you expect if your spiritual mentor was the Rev. Wright? |
