This is the Headline from the Washington Post today on the failed Stimulus package.

Tell me, does the word "POWER" belong in this headline? And how about the Headline in general?

"Power of Stimulus Slow to Take Hold"

I think the Headlines reach a lot more people than the items in the articles.

Good Observation!

If it was powerful it should have taken hold already.

Reports today from General Accounting indicate that the money sent to the states have not gone to stimulate the economy.

Report: States aren't using stimulus funds as intended

WASHINGTON — Under pressure to spend stimulus money quickly, many states are using the federal funds for short-term projects and to fill budget gaps rather than spending on long-term improvements, according to a report by congressional investigators.

The report, scheduled to be released Tuesday by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) at a House oversight hearing, also says many states aren't meeting some goals and requirements of the economic recovery program. Some states, for example, are not sending transportation funding to the most economically distressed areas, and they are using education funds to prevent layoffs rather than fund innovative new programs, the report says.

As required by the $787 billion stimulus law, the GAO is monitoring stimulus spending in 16 states and the District of Columbia that will receive two-thirds of the federal funds. It reports to Congress every two months.

The report says that as of mid-June, states had received about $29 billion of the estimated $49 billion in stimulus funding they are scheduled to get before the federal budget year ends Sept. 30. More than 90% of the money given to the states so far is for Medicaid and a fund meant to prop up states' budgets for schools and other basic services such as public safety...snipped

I told you so isn't polite, but we were warning of this "shovel ready" BS when the stimulus was being forced through. Obama & Biden are either dishonest, or ignorant politicians.

IMHO they have deliberately passed out the money so it hits before 2010 & 2012 elections for maximum effect. What they should have done is a real infrastructure stimulus and tax cuts for businesses and taxpayers if they wanted the economy to recover now. Filtering money through the Federal government is always inefficient and if left to the private sector through tax incentives or breaks would have been quicker

However that would have gone against their ideology of bigger Government and the ability to pass out money to their special interests and the use of those "Borrowed Monies" to control our lives.

The States just used the money to balance their budgets and avoid the real cuts needed. Obama & his advisers along with Pelsoi knew this would happen. Unfortunately for us the current administration in power first goal is to stay in power. That should be the real headline. It was always about Power and the garnering of more Power. That's the DC Game!

That is why I have asked Vice President Biden to lead a tough, unprecedented oversight effort – because nobody messes with Joe. I have told each member of my Cabinet as well as mayors and governors across the country that they will be held accountable by me and the American people for every dollar they spend. I have appointed a proven and aggressive Inspector General to ferret out any and all cases of waste and fraud. And we have created a new website called recovery.gov so that every American can find out how and where their money is being spent.
