. T. Boone Pickens backs off wind farm project (Reuters) - Texas oil billionaire T. Boone Pickens has called off plans to build the world's biggest wind farm in the Texas Panhandle, the Wall Street Journal said. Pickens said the wind farm project was scuttled partly because of the lack of adequate transmission lines to carry the electricity from remote locations to cities, according to the paper. The oil tycoon had hoped to build new transmission lines but could not secure financing, the paper said. Pickens plans to find new homes for the turbines that he already agreed to buy, the paper said, citing a statement. Pickens could not immediately be reached for comment by Reuters. http://www.reuters.com/article/GCA-GreenBusiness/idUSTRE56710Z20090708 . |

. Obama's Energy (Cap & Trade Tax) Plan is a Scam and so is the Gov't Health Care. They will be as effective as the Community Housing Investment was to Freddie to Fannie. They will be as effective as his Stimulus and his Pork OmniBus Bilge. This administration is real big on Sales and Marketing and there's nothing behind it whatsoever. . |

Exactly....yet all the pinheads bleating about Michael Jackson being a saint will saddle us with Obizzle and his "magic beans" for the very foreseeable future. Ugh, we're doomed. |

Typical Pie in the Sky being spoon fed to the masses. Oh it sounds so great! Clean Energy from wind farms in the Midwest. Never-mind we don't have the distribution system in place. I am not anti wind just anti the stupidity of these fools who don't realize that infrastructure is more important and that's there is a reason we have power plants close to cities. As for T. Boone, never fully trusted him and still don't. |

That excuse sounds kind of lame. I wonder if that's the real reason? |

I don't know, but the design of transmission lines, getting zoning approval, and getting landholder's contracts take time, Years in truth. The whole shovel ready concept of the stimulus was a joke and is proving out to be. Getting private financing might well be the reason for the inability to build transmission lines and proceed. But like I said, I never fully trusted T. Boone, nor the Sierra Club Coalition |

He said yesterday on Cavuto that there's a BIG financing provision in the Cap and Tax Bill. So, I don't know...Boone knows the energy business, but he isn't in it for fun- it's (as we say in Texas) all BIDDINESS! |

The power generated by wind is intermittent. It requires a traditional fossil fuel back up or nuclear back up to be running at all times in case the wind isn't blowing. Since the greens will stop any proposed nuclear or coal plant from being built that leaves natural gas as the only viable candidate for future electrical plants. Pickens has a huge stake in natural gas. That's his biddeness; that's why he's pushing wind farms. Wind power sucks on it's own merits. It's not a baseline source for electricity and destabilizes the grid past a certain percentage. It's not very green because it's requires a traditional electrical plant to be up and running (but not at capacity) to back it up. It's distributed nature makes it carbon intensive to construct and maintain. Did I mention it's far more expensive? |

. Wonder how many kids in college would be able to answer accurately regarding wind energy? These things have been (are) pedaled as the answer to all our problems. . |

Years ago, I was in an investment involving a company associated with Boone. Actually got paid some dividends and made a little money. One day got a letter in the mail. The company is disolved. Sorry! I am really dumb about this stimulus package but I though part of it was to do complete these kind of projects and develop new energy sources like the tar sands in Colorado and Wyoming, which supposidly contain more oil then the entire Middle East. Boone is stuck with the bill for millions of dollars worth of 400 tall wind turbines. Did he take delivery of these things? It did sound great until the truth came out about the efficency of wind mills and the cost. Canada has already developed their tar sands and getting the oil out and selling to us. We all need to go back and read "1984" and watch "V for Vendetta." I usually scream at the t.v. when I hear the Lefty (and some Republican) politicians say that this bill will keep us from being dependent on foreign oil! I'm from an old wildcatting family, have actually gone to oil fields with my dad and have seen core samples, so I just can't stand the LIES that are being told. The oil companies found out long ago that it was CHEAPER to buy oil from foreign sources because OUR government imposed so many rules and taxes. Thus, people like Onassis and Niarchos sprang up to transport the oil to our refineries, with all of the attendant problems inherent in transporting oil by sea. This whole thing is absurd. Drill here, Drill in ANWR. California could solve all of its budget problems if they were willing to access the oil off its shoreline. We have become idiots and are governed by FOOLS. |

. Look at all the Fabulous Press T. Boone got upfront when he announced this stuff and quickly became a media darling. Now, look at the dearth of coverage when the rubber meets the road. . |
