They probably let her on the show to talk about Cooper, hoping to start something about Cooper. That's why she gave out all the info. on Cooper. |

I have been thinking about the best way to make our voice heard....without breaking arms and butting heads..... 1. I and others have suggested emailing the News Director, Rick Martinez, who is Bill LuMaye's boss, or so I was led to believe. 2. One of our members emailed the President of Curtis Media and got a snarly (my word) reply. I suggested that member now write the CEO, Don Curtis. 3. I was going to wait until Monday to see what Bill LuMaye said, if anything, about what happened last week....and I said I might even email him. I meant that I would do that even before his program started....tho I also said that I have emailed him during his program when I couldn't get in to talk, or time was running out, etc. He does read those emails during a program. 4. I now think you choose whichever one of you is a prolific and persuasive writer who has the basic facts to refute VP's comments. (Don't think the whole case has to be covered......to be honest here, I think the public thinks it's all over.....no trial.....the boys are fine......they are not even aware of the law suits, and if they are, they surely can't find out anything unless they read Liestoppers!!) You write Bill an email (billlumaye@wptfmail.com) or write him a letter expressing your concern that VP was allowed to "enhance" her side.....when there is no legitimate side as far as her facts are concerned.....that she was throwing out her accusations with no one who could adequately refute them. Rick and his wife did not do a good job at this. You come across as someone who is calm, cool, collected and knowledgeable of the facts. And who just wants the truth to be told to the listening audience, (who for the most part are conservatives, but the liberals listen and call in also.) I know this sounds simplistic......and maybe naive......but I do not believe that WPTF is the same as the MSM.....(the President who responded may be out of the loop). I do believe Bill LuMaye will allow "the other side" (Us) to have their say. Is it Quasimodo,(sp?), Baldo, Joan Foster, Lodge Pro, J in Wonderland who 'knows' VP, JMOO??????? You guys have the wounds to prove you have been in the battle....(there are so many others I have left out, only because I can't remember all of you at this moment!). Don't know why they would hone in on Cooper.......these hosts, while not the greatest at refuting VP, don't have it in for Cooper, I don't think. I find it hard to believe they even knew what she would be spouting out about, except for the fact that they were going to let her "enhance" the subject!!

There should be a emailing campaign to the station tonight and tomorrow morning. It will be there when they arrive to check their email. Send to Lumay and the bosses. |

I personally don't think a deluge of letters, emails, etc. always gets the job done....... Perhaps it does when voters are writing Congress to influence the passage or non-passage of a bill.....but then they only count the number for and against. Who reads them all?? Certainly not the elected official. Heck, they don't even read the proposed legislation before they vote!! It's just me and the way I approach things.......guess I thought one or maybe two letters or email to Bill would do the trick....... |

WPTF is a rather conservative radio am station. In fact, all the stations owned by Don Curtis tend to be on the conservative side. WPTF 680 am is the most listened to station in the area. It has a wide following of both conservative and liberal listeners. I really like the station. I believe that Bill LuMaye did not select Victoria Peterson to be on his radio program. He appears to me to not be that type of person. He tends to be a rather libertarian more on the conservative side of politics. My guess is under the suggestion of Rick Martinez, LuMaye's boss, they decided that if VP was to be given an opportunity to speak on the show it would be while Bill LuMaye was not there (on vacation). Rick and his wife donna usually show up together when one of the local personalities go on vacation. If anything I blame Martinez for letting VP come on the radio with no dissenting opinions allowed. Emailing Bill LuMaye I believe will help from the simple fact he can tell Martinez "I told you so". Regardless they got VP off their back. I dont think LuMaye would have tolerated VP's opinions like the other 2 hosts did and that is why he never hosted VP and waited until he was gone to allow her on his program. LuMaye usually follows the RUSH format and has open mike fridays where the audience can call about anything they want to talk about. If y'all can wait till friday to call you may be able to express your opinions then. Dont stop with those emails. He listens and so does the station. I never did get a response back from my email complaint to rick and donna. So feel lucky that emailing a boss got a response. |

. Yes, but you'd be surprised. They haven't had a lot of interest in Duke Lacrosse - even on Fridays - and they won't let you speak to Ruth about it, in my experience. Even after she's made comments about it. They also shielded Bill Bell from Tough Questions. . |

Let's apply logic. 1.) Where do the station employees live and work? 2.) Who buys their local advertising? 3.) What school system do their children use? 4.) Who buys their local advertising? 5.) What legal system would the owners/employees use if they needed its services? 6.) Who buys their local advertising? 7.) Do they normally talk about controversial local issues that might ruffle the local power structure or do they confine themselves to conservative topics that are safe and remote in Washington, DC? |

Bill LuMaye is heavy into local conservative issues and he is not afraid to talk about any issue with anyone. He has had interesting intense discussions with some of his more liberal guests. He does take a lot of phone calls. But he will try to keep people from getting totally out of hand. |

Okay...just looked in the Yellow Pages.....it shows WPTF News/Talk 680: Local Talk Show Line- 919-860-9783 Listenerline- 919-860-0680 on the line where they give the address for the station WPTF News/Talk 680 it also gives the phone #: 919-876-0674 (That's probably the business phone for the offices) I have always called the "9783" and they announce on the program to call " 680-WPTF" or the 1-800 number or for cell call ""star" 680. Whatever # will get you though to the show....go for it!! |

Just FYI, I didn't specifically email Mr. Zachary. At the website I clicked on the site index, then on "contact us" which took me to a form for email and the default was "To: General Manager." Among other things, in my email I included a link to that "classic" video when VP jumped into the shot with the WRAL reporter reporting about VP being kicked out of the hearing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxx34uHX3uQ So if they didn't know before, Mr. Zachary has the information available if he cares to know. |

Chatham, I think you've hit the jackpot!!!!! Your analysis is right on target. It makes sense......some of you even heard his wife say she didn't feel sorry for Nifong......this gets the station off the hook for a long while, hopefully, of having VP pestering them. On the other hand, they do need to let one of the Liestoppers come on and refute her. I bet LuMaye will do that...... Edited by TarHeelBorn, Jul 5 2009, 07:52 PM.

Hi abb! 1.) Where do the station employees live and work? Mostly in Raleigh or Wake County- maybe even in surrounding counties 2.) Who buys their local advertising? Mostly local businesses (probably conservative-minded individuals) 3.) What school system do their children use? If they live in Wake County/Raleigh, the WC Public School System 4.) Who buys their local advertising? Same as above---- 5.) What legal system would the owners/employees use if they needed its services? The best defense lawyers around...if civil cases, we have a lot of them, also. (many conservative) 6.) Who buys their local advertising? -same as above 7.) Do they normally talk about controversial local issues that might ruffle the local power structure (oh my goodness, yes, yes, yes!) or do they confine themselves to conservative topics that are safe and remote in Washington, DC? Nothing is sacred....LuMaye addresses everything! (Don't know/haven't heard remarks about Duke/Abuse case on his show yet...but I don't listen everyday!) Think I know where you're coming from, abb......makes sense.....but in this case I think Chatham is correct in that LuMaye addresses most anything and everything.......our school system, local and county govt., state and federal.......he is fair, though....always tries to have opposing sides on... |
