I just called the main # at WPTF (876-0674) and asked to speak to Bill LuMaye......he was not in, but I left a message saying that I would be emailing him shortly....that I bet he had already heard from a number of people about last Thursday's show......and that so many felt that there should have been someone on the show to counter VP's accusations. His voice mail says to leave a message and/or name and phone # and he will get back in touch. Because I am in and out today, I told him I would just email him. How many others have emailed? It would be interesting to see how things are going......

Just wrote and sent mine into Bill.........the jist of what I said.......(there was more before and some afterward... ---snip---- "I know you to be a person who takes on anyone and everyone......but in a fair way, with both sides invited to the table. (I can't stand the Democratic operative you have on each week.....but I just listen and bear it). Would you consider inviting a well-researched, well-mannered, concise with his/her words, (as I obviously am NOT!) person to be on your program to respond to her accusations and wild insinuations? Have you heard a tape of the program where she goes after Roy Cooper? (Guess she doesn't know how all the politicians get donations from out-of-state?) I do believe that the general public thinks the Lacrosse case is over and done with. The boys are free.....poor Durham is being sued for no reason, the boys got money from Duke..what's the big deal???? As you know, there is so much more.....corruption within a city, the courts, cover-up, etc. And the fact that even some MSM writers still think a crime took place. They don't want to look at the facts. If Victoria Peterson's appearance (so to speak) on the program is the lasting impression your listeners had of the Lacrosse case, then many are left with the thought that there is something rotten in the state of NC." ---snip--- I did go on to say that there are indeed many things rotten in this state, but that for once, Roy Cooper did something right......(So that line takes care of you folks who would respond by saying there are a whole lot of things wrong with NC! I agree!!!! |

Thanks, Rusty Dog. Haven't had an email response yet. He's probably preparing his program for today. And I don't know that he will address this issue today, but I do believe he will address it this week, which is why someone who writes better than I do should also get in touch with him. Maybe they have, and choose not to post that fact here...that's okay......as long as someone else or several, send that email! |

. It wouldn't surprise me if Ruth Sheehan appeared on his show in her slot when the Martinez's got involved or promoted with WPTF. That running to Sheehan in a market saturated with liberal media never made any sense. Martinez is connected to the N&O. I think some may be overly optimistic about WPTF, although it's worth a try. . |

I believe Bill LuMaye was worried about the FAIRNESS DOCTRINE making a comeback. One way around that would be to have liberal commentators every week on the program. And yes, Rick Martinez was probably the initiator of getting Ruth on the monday programs. I dont know who got the friday doofus but I believe he is a democrap consultant or something. |

I suppose if someone did get the chance to get on the Bill LuMaye show they could just say that nifong already admitted he was wrong and then quote his apologies from his bar hearings. |

I only caught the first few minutes of the show. (You can listen live from any part of the US) He talked about Sarah Palin; which, I suppose, was the larger story. He may take a couple of days to catch up on the Peterson story (and tomorrow is the Jackson funeral...) |

Have one or two posts to make....but wanted to respond to this one first. Pro Lodge "It wouldn't surprise me if Ruth Sheehan appeared on his show in her slot when the Martinez's got involved or promoted with WPTF. That running to Sheehan in a market saturated with liberal media never made any sense." Can't remember when Ruth first started appearing......it brings in many calls during the show. Bill likes to show the other side......Ruth is sometimes (maybe mostly) controversial......to have her on the show and Bill question her and then have caller participation- what is wrong with that??? And Rick may have suggested (as the boss) to Bill that a segment with Ruth would be good. Bill also has a professor from NC State who talks about the economy. And then remember he has the Democratic consultant on, also a Republican consultant. Now on to Chatham's thoughts: "I believe Bill LuMaye was worried about the FAIRNESS DOCTRINE making a comeback. One way around that would be to have liberal commentators every week on the program. And yes, Rick Martinez was probably the initiator of getting Ruth on the monday programs. I dont know who got the friday doofus but I believe he is a democrap consultant or something." Hadn't considered the Fairness Doctrine having an impact on why they may be having these folks on as either weekly or sometimes guests.......I don't mind hearing the other side......Bill does not let it get down and dirty. The Friday "doofus" was not the Democratic consultant....I believe he is another person from the station who sits in one day with Bill and they are pro and con.......I don't think this guy has all the facts straight, he is liberal, but not nasty. |

Listened to the first hour of the program, and Bill indeed spent all of that hour, at least, on Sarah Palin..which was a tad boring since the fill-in had the same discussion topic on Friday...though he certainly came at it from the liberal viewpoint. I did get an email response from Bill-----while I was gone and it was sent during his program....he said he had heard the voice mail and would forward my email to Rick. (So Chatham may be absolutely correct in surmising that Bill thought this "inteview" ought to be done.) I'll look forward to hearing from Rick. I'm going to write Bill again....... |

Now on to Rick Martinez - He writes a column for the N&O - I think he is the token conservative in the employ of the paper. (don't know for certain, but I don't see any other conservative opinion pieces written.) His latest column was written June 23, 2009. http://www.newsobserver.com/opinion/martinez/ Rick Martinez has been writing editorial page columns for The News & Observer since 2001. He can be reached by e-mail at rickjmartinez2@verizon.net * Archives: * 2007 * 2006 * 2005 If some of you on here think he's too liberal, you ought to see what the liberals say about him! I googled, trying to find some info about Rick...how long he has been writing for the N&O, and when he was hired at WPTF. (He still writes his column for the N&O.) I could not determine the date of this announcement..Looks like it would have been 2006. Curtis Media news/talk WPTF (680)/Raleigh, N.C., has appointed Rick Martinez director of news and programming. He’s replacing Kevin Miller, who left in Aug. 2006 for WWTN/Nashville. Martinez will be in place on Aug. 15. Most recently senior editor for the company’s State Government Radio Division, Martinez and his wife, Donna, are frequent fill-in hosts at WPTF and also host and produce the weekly “Focus” public affairs program heard on the station as well as on co-owned news/talk WSJS /Greensboro-Winston Salem/High. and this from a blog called "Blue".......whew! http://bluenc.com James lives in Chapel Hill, and there are several other bloggers who participate at this site.......all liberal, a little testy at times......and the complete opposite of you folks........they think WPTF is the worst thing around....especially since Rush is on for 3 hours. But they really detest Rick.......think Don Curtis blew it when he hired Rick.......so maybe Rick likes to stir things up...which is what I said to him on Thursday when I got in to the show...... If Bill LuMaye has to run his programming ideas by Rick, then so be it. We just have to reach Rick. I suggest you google Rick Martinez, or go to the website mentioned above. Have fun....I felt my blood pressure rising...... |

. Bill LuMaye protected Bill Bell when he was the show - I know because I was the caller. The station never liked the Duke Lacrosse case - I think they were uncomfortable with that subject. That's my take. . |

You seem to have a legitimate gripe about that, Lodge Pro. I wish I could remember what the discussion was like back then.....I'm sure I was listening, and vaguely remember when Bill Bell was the guest. What I don't remember was the discussion and the comments from callers. Let's see what we can do now, and hope for a better outcome! |

I had the honor of being banned from bluenc.com I could link to the posts showing the names I was called but they are beyond the pale for this website. |
