Cuba has just banned all flights to Mexico. Maybe Fidel could call his new friend Obama with a little advice. |

Emergency but no need for Alarm? California declares swine flu emergency California declared a state of emergency to tackle the swine flu outbreak on Tuesday as authorities said they were investigating two deaths in Los Angeles for possible links to the disease. A statement from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's office said that while there was "no need for alarm," the emergency declaration was necessary to help limit the spread of swine flu. "While there is no need for alarm, it is the Governor's top priority to limit the swine flu's spread as quickly and effectively as possible ...," the statement said... snipped http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.e9045528c59c5757d16489c77d444971.791&show_article=1 |

I can't figure out if they are priming us or trying to cause us to panic. 36,000 deaths from the regular flu this year and we're just now hearing about it (at least I am). It's now not politically correct to call it the swine flu so Napolitano is calling it the H1N1 flu. Sorry - but I'm not saying, "H1N1." http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N28343516.htm |

. No less than the Assoc. Press ran articles saying they were doing nothing more than handing out fliers to people coming into the U.S. They stated no one was detained. They stated other than blue fliers, it was a business as usual entering the U.S. |

Interesting story about a possible ground zero. I say possible. There is a large pig farm operation near by. Four-year-old could hold key in search for source of swine flu outbreak Case confirmed in village in south-eastern Mexico where 60% of residents fell ill http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/apr/27/swine-flu-search-outbreak-source A Mexican village whose inhabitants were overwhelmed by an outbreak of respiratory illness starting in February has emerged as a possible source of the swine flu outbreak which has now spread across the world. The state government of Veracruz in eastern Mexico has confirmed one case of swine flu in the village of La Gloria with the sufferer named locally as a four-year-old boy, Edgar Hernández Hernández. The federal government said tonight that he tested positive for the same strain of the virus which has claimed lives in Mexico. The boy's case earlier this month came amid an outbreak of respiratory illness in the area in which around 400 people requested medical help. The boy was treated in hospital and survived. But two babies from the same village died during the outbreak. Sufferers complained of symptoms including fever, severe cough, and large amounts of phlegm. "The symptoms were exactly like the ones they talk about now [with swine flu]," said a local resident. "High fevers, pain in the muscles and the joints, terrible headaches, some vomiting and diarrhoea. The illness came on very quickly and whole families were laid up." It remained unclear tonight whether the illness was swine flu but the Mexican government appeared to cast doubt on its original diagnosis of the outbreak as a more typical H2N3 flu virus when it revealed that the only sample it sent to North America for swine flu tests came back positive. "The sample of one of the cases, that of a four-year-old boy, was kept," said federal health minister José Ángel Córdova. "It was among the samples sent [to labs abroad] and that came back confirmed."..snipped Edited by Baldo, Apr 28 2009, 10:36 PM.

Officials in Mexico City on Tuesday ordered all eateries closed to the public as efforts stepped up to fight a deadly swine flu outbreak that has likely killed more than 150 people. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=090428151451.hcakfkuf&show_article=1 What a bummer! I must admit I have had incredible food in Mexico City. One forgets the French Heritage and discovers a world of cuisine and service you wouldn't believe. Mexican waiters at the better restaurants are truly professionals. Chilaquiles is the comfort food of Mexico and I have enjoyed my share at simple cafes. |

Another story about trying to find the soucre which dismisses the American pig farm as a soucre. The Mexicans authorities haven't found any infected pigs. Lots of speculation and few answers Mexico struggling to find source of killer flu MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Mexico first noticed a strange new flu virus after a woman died in the southern state of Oaxaca on April 13, but investigators are far from discovering the origin of an outbreak that has spread throughout the world. Possible cases of the new H1N1 swine flu have been found in several locations in Mexico hundreds of miles apart from as early as mid-March, complicating the search for the source of the epidemic that his killed 149 people in Mexico. The flu, a novel mixture of DNA from avian, swine and human viruses, appeared in Mexico in recent weeks in Oaxaca, Veracruz near the Gulf Coast, Baja California on the U.S. border and the central state of San Luis Potosi. And independently of the cases that Mexican doctors began to see, two children in California became sick with what later turned out to be swine flu at the end of last month. "Where did the virus come from? We don't know. Did someone come from California or did someone go from Mexico to California? We don't have that information," Health Minister Jose Cordova said. Many of the confirmed swine flu cases in Mexico and the United States are genetically identical, the World Health Organization says. Experts say the illness likely emerged in a pig infected with avian and human flu strains. "At some point someone in a rural area came into contact with a pig that was infected, or as it was transported, or at a slaughterhouse," said Dr Joan Nichols of the University of Texas Medical Branch. MEXICO PIGS Even if the virus were traced to a pig in Mexico, it might have been imported from the United States. Mexico is the world's biggest importer of U.S. hogs. All the deaths have been in Mexico, which could indicate that the illness emerged there, Nichols said. Mexican authorities began to look closely at the outbreak after the death of the woman in Oaxaca, which they initially thought was due to a coronavirus, the same family of viruses that includes the SARS virus, rather than influenza. Among the cases later discovered was a large influenza outbreak near Perote, a small town in Veracruz state, which was reported on April 2. The presence nearby of a giant pig farm operated by a joint venture of a large U.S. pork processor has prompted speculation that the town is the epicenter of the epidemic. But the Mexican government has dismissed the Perote outbreak as the source of the illness, arguing that all but one of the 20 or so victims tested positive for another type of human flu virus known as H3N2. A 4-year-old boy later tested positive for the H1N1 swine flu. Mexican agriculture officials say they inspected pig farms around the town over the weekend and found no pigs infected with respiratory ailments. No infected pigs have been found anywhere in Mexico, the government said in a statement on Tuesday. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/us_flu_mexico_origin |
