For those of you who don’t know Selena Roberts is one of the reports who broke the A-Rod used steroids… Here is an excerpt from an SI interview/Q & A about her reporting: SI: Alex Rodriguez is now the only known name among those 104 players, leading to some speculation that he was somehow "singled out." Can you explain why we know only of his inclusion on the list? Roberts: …when we began hearing rumors about steroid use. You hear a lot of things in this business, so we went about our due diligence in nailing down the truth: Was this rumor or real? In a meticulous process, we verified and re-verified our information, because this is a human being here, so you absolutely do not want to be wrong. We made a decision to confront Alex with the evidence we had regarding his positive test, and give him a chance to explain. He chose not to. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/selena_roberts/02/08/arod.q-a/?eref=sircrc I could not believe what I read; this is the same Selena Roberts who said among other things: “Does President Brodhead dare to confront the culture behind the lacrosse team’s code of silence or would he fear being ridiculed as a snitch?” “Something happened March 13, when a woman, hired to dance at a private party, alleged that three lacrosse players sexually assaulted her in a bathroom for 30 minutes.” For more see: Durham in Wonderland http://durhamwonderland.blogspot.com/2008/03/selena-roberts-still-misleading.html Whether you like or dislike A-Rod, annoyed, disappointed, or sickened by steroid use the fact that this information got out is really really appalling (someone lied to the players leaked information that was supposed to be anonymous AND confidential. Although, I don’t blame reporters for actually doing investigative work etc. I think there are some ethical questions of reporting information that one know was anonymous AND confidential. |

People like Roberts are selective in what they call "truth." Selena Roberts is a fundamentally dishonest person; it does not surprise me that a person like her is a high-level "journalist," as the profession now is dominated by amoral people.
