No secret I'm a big Thomas Sowell fan. I always find a great deal of wisdom in his thinking. It was really easy to apply the wisdom in today's article to what happened at Duke. (I don't know the correct way to show "snips" from the article so please excuse my clumsy attempt.) http://townhall.com/columnists/ThomasSowell/2009/02/10/de-programming_students Yet trying to undo the propaganda that passes for education at too many schools and colleges, one issue at a time, may not always be the best strategy. There are too many issues on which the politically correct party line is considered to be the only way to look at things. ..... Would it make sense for a jury to reach a verdict after having heard only the prosecution's case, or only the defense attorney's case, but not both? ...... Elementary as it may seem that we should hear both sides of an issue before making up our minds, that is seldom what happens on politically correct issues today in our schools and colleges. The biggest argument of the left is that there is no argument-- whether the issue is global warming, "open space" laws or whatever. ...... ***************************** Remarkably the "or whatever" includes, not just issues but the guilt of Duke students. For me, it helps to explain what has continued to be inexplicable. The Duke/Durham lynch mob (particularly the Gang of 88) thought they could do what they always do. They thought they could present the prosecution/persecution/their version of things and that would be it. In their world, in their minds, they are the arbiters of right and wrong. They state their version of things and their exalted position or political correctness silences any other view. And they still think they're right. The truly sad and frightening thing is, they had and still have tremendous power. What should have been resolved in a matter of days is still going on. And "they" continue to exert their power everyday in thousands of smaller ways with "no argument." I'm glad Liestoppers is still "arguing" and Dr. Sowell continues to explain it so simply. "The biggest argument of the left is that there is no argument--" |

Spot on. It is certainly no secret that Professor KC is more liberal than many of us, but I would take that his courses any day. He is what I expect of a Professor. He searches for the truth and I am sure I would learn much from his instruction. That is all I want from a Professor, someone who puts aside his politics beliefs and instructs. BTW in case you don't know KC is an expert on Post WW II Congress and the Cold War and also LBJ. Congress and the Cold War, Cambridge University Press, 2005. http://academic.brooklyn.cuny.edu/history/johnson/cv.htm The truth has no political persuasion. It is Truth and politics has little to do with truth. I still think KC would make a perfect Dean of Academics at Duke, but he would be too smart to take it. |

Baldo, I think we may have some psychic connection. After I made this post, I went to DiW and read Johnson's new article (good one). I come back here and your response to my post about Sowell is about Johnson.

The G88 pretty much represent the modern academy. Any kind of real learning is "Eurocentric," which means "bad," and such learning is to be replaced by propaganda.
