February 2009 Help Pass “Davie’s Law” and Spare North Carolina’s Shelter Animals From Suffering in Gas Chambers Rep. Cary Allred has introduced House Bill 6, also known as Davie’s Law -- named after a shelter puppy that survived a euthanasia gas chamber and was later found alive in a dumpster in Davie County. This groundbreaking bill would end the use of gas chambers to euthanize shelter animals in North Carolina. Spearheaded by the North Carolina Coalition for Humane Euthanasia with assistance from American Humane, Davie’s Law would ensure that when the state’s unwanted, sick or unadoptable cats and dogs have to be euthanized, the procedure will be done only by injection of sodium pentobarbital. American Humane considers that to be the only acceptable and humane means of euthanizing animals in animal shelters. Learn more and take action now by asking your state representative to support HB 6 so that thousands of animals will be saved from needless suffering. https://secure2.convio.net/aha/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage&page=SplashPage&id=611 Help Ban Gas Chambers for Euthanizing Shelter Animals in North Carolina Ask your state representative to support House Bill 6 to spare North Carolina’s shelter animals from the gas chamber. State Rep. Cary Allred has introduced House Bill 6 -- known as Davie’s Law -- a groundbreaking bill that would end the use of gas chambers to euthanize shelter animals in North Carolina. Davie’s Law is named after a shelter puppy that survived a gas chamber and was later found alive in a dumpster in Davie County. Spearheaded by the North Carolina Coalition for Humane Euthanasia with assistance from American Humane, the bill is a significant step toward improving the safety and lives of animals and people throughout North Carolina. Davie’s Law would ensure that when the state’s unwanted, sick or unadoptable cats and dogs have to be euthanized, the procedure will be done only by injection of sodium pentobarbital. American Humane considers euthanasia by injection of sodium pentobarbital to be the only acceptable and humane method of euthanasia for dogs and cats in animal shelters. Shelter workers overwhelmingly wish to hold and comfort a frightened animal in its final moments of life. That act may be the only kindness the animal has ever known. In contrast, even with vigilant oversight, euthanizing any animal by means of a high-altitude decompression chamber, carbon monoxide gas system or firearm is both severely inhumane and harmful to the emotional and physical health of people and animals. Such acts of euthanasia also create public outcry regarding the outdated practices and demean the purpose of an animal shelter. The continual public outcry in North Carolina against the gas chambers still used in 32 of the state’s shelters illustrates a critical need to amend an inhumane and dangerous practice that has continued far too long. Please ask your state representative to support HB 6, Davie’s Law, so that thousands of animals will be spared needless suffering. Edited by ~J~ is in Wonderland, Feb 6 2009, 08:24 PM.

Ironically, there is no call in Florida for a similar law when real-live children are born, and then discarded: http://www.buffalonews.com/260/story/570428.html Oh, I forgot. We call leaving a live baby to die in a trash can, "Choice." Constitutionally protected. (I had no idea that the framers of the Constitution meant something like that was protected, but here it is.)

I asked a husband and wife, friends of mine, who are pro choice the following.....Why do pro choice people not get upset when a woman bearing a 3 month old fetus in her belly chooses to abort her fetus but do get very upset when a person with a gun shoots the gun and hits the woman bearing a 3 month old fetus in the stomach and kills the fetus? In both cases the fetus had no choice. They answered the following way..... . |

Life should be always treated with respect.... Even in death. The Native-Americans hunted the buffalo for food. However, the settlers hunted them for sport. Traditional Native-Americans do not believe of killing animals for the sake of killing. When the Native-Americans killed a buffalo, every part of that buffalo was used. Buffalo were killed for food, shelter, and clothing. If a Native-American had enough food for the family then they would give part of the buffalo to other families in need of food. Native-Americans did not kill the buffalo for the sake of sport. http://www.gordon.army.mil/eoo/native.htm And we called them savages... Edited by Baldo, Feb 6 2009, 09:50 PM.
