Henze and Charlton (himself the former U.S. Attorney) make a pretty compelling case that Thomas is out of control. Calling him "the Michael Nifong of Maricopa County" (after the disgraced and now disbarred prosecutor in the Duke rape case), the lawyers argue that Thomas has "abandoned his role as a minister of justice and acted with improper bias and prejudice ..."

Davidson weathers economy
Kara Jones
Issue date: 2/4/09 Section: News
PrintEmail Article Tools Page 1 of 3 next > Davidson's endowment fell 28 percent from just over $500 million in July 2008 to $362 million at the end of December. The drop is unsurprising given the rapid deterioration of the stock market in the latter parts of 2008 and Davidson has fared comparatively well, school officials say.

The school has cut the operating budget by 2.5 percent for the remainder of the fiscal year, which ends in July, and is targeting a three percent cut for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. Despite budget cuts, the school aims to protect the current student experience and avoid lay-offs, according to President Ross in an interview.

The school's operating budget relies on several sources of revenue including tuition revenue, room and board charges, and a payout from the endowment. The yearly payout equals five percent of the endowment's five-year rolling average. The value of the endowment on Dec. 31 became the amount averaged for this fiscal year, immediately creating a deficit.

While there was some concern over spring enrollment, and therefore tuition revenue, fewer students have withdrawn compared to recent semesters, and more students have returned to campus after studying abroad during the fall semester.

President Ross addressed Davidson's financial position in a Nov. 13 email to members of the Davidson community, reporting losses to the endowment as well as the school's plan to weather the economic downturn.

Man sought in kidnapping, ATM robbery
Posted: Today at 7:45 a.m.
Updated: Today at 12:19 p.m.

Raleigh, N.C. — Police are searching for a man who kidnapped a woman from her Boylan Heights home in Raleigh Monday evening and forced her to withdraw money from an automated teller machine.

The woman, who lives on the 700 block of McCulloch Street, told police she answered a knock on her door Monday night and was confronted by a man who implied he had a weapon.

She said he told her to take him to an ATM and that he forced her to withdraw $300.

The man then had the woman drive him to New Bern Avenue, where he got out of her vehicle and walked off, she told police. She wasn't physically harmed during the incident, police said.

Investigators said the assailant also took the woman's necklace and cell phone. She returned and called police from the home of Mayor Charles Meeker, who lives in the neighborhood.

"It's very unusual to have that kind of crime in our neighborhood," said Meeker, who has lived in Boylan Heights for 30 years. "Occasionally, there will be a bicycle or something like that stolen. This kind of crime is very serious and something I don't recall happening in recent years."

The kidnapper is described as a heavyset black man in his 20s with a medium complexion and about 5 feet, 8 inches tall. He was wearing a hoodie-style jacket made of cloth with a tan camouflage pattern.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department’s Detective Division at 919-996-3555.

DENVER – Colorado Mammoth rookie forward Matt Danowski has been named National Lacrosse League Rookie of the Week. The honor, announced today by the league office in New York, is reflective of play last weekend.

Danowski, the Mammoth's first round selection (7th overall) in this year's entry draft, scored a career-high three goals to lead his team past the New York Titans on January 31. In only three games played this season, Danowski has scored five goals, including one game winner, while scooping up eight loose balls in his transition to the indoor game. Colorado finished the month of January with a record of 2-2.

Danowski was the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008 while at Duke University. He was also a four-time All-American.

The Mammoth travels to St. Paul this Saturday, February 7 to take on the Minnesota Swarm. The next home game for Colorado is Saturday, February 14 when the Calgary Roughnecks visit Pepsi Center in a 7:00 pm contest.
