Yes, we Hooligans have been together so long...we are reviving our old debates...and enjoying them.! :roflmao: :roflmao:

Originally, I suspected the "Santa" that lived across the street...a University professor wasn't he? He wrote a book about a child being kidnapped/murdered and his own daughter was briefly missing. He was in and out of the house and JB had said Santa had a "special surprise" for her.

The Professor had a number of odd behaviors but, apparently, he was cleared early on. He was simply (as we have come to see at Duke) another of the bizarro individuals attracted to that profession. (our brilliant Bill A. and KC excepted. of course.) :bunn:
The family had their kitchen renovated before the crime with instructions that it HAD to be completed before Thanksgiving. There were plenty of people in the house.

I'm fencing on two other fronts these days, not weasling out.
Meantime I would like to point out that the prosecution was only, ever, able to get one
"expert" to identify the note as being written by Patsy, and he first had identified it as being by Brett ,whose style ( in neither writing nor phraseology )in any way resembles that of his parent.
Handwriting experts are the one group of experts on whom nobody ever hangs anyone! When they disagree(and I don't know of a case of contested handwriting where both sides couldn't find an expert)the jury invariably decides the case on some other factor and can feel good that they have got a scientist who agrees with them.
I am happy to state with Joan that I likewise had my eye on the Santa and how about that play script by a close family associate which so closely paralleled the murder. But the fact is the DNA tests which clear Patsy and John clear all the Agatha Christie style suspects in one swope.
Meantime, if I wrote in error about the Christmas party,I am sure there is an account in the holiday period when the Ramseys spend an entire day with friends and leave an hyppothetical intruder most of a full day to case things out and even try out his penmanship. Which like the DNA doesn't actually match any of the known suspects all that well.Sometimes like Patsy, sometimes like more than one other person.
To me the real question is did the killer consciously incorporate all those quotes from two bit movies(which
would imply there are several earlier drafts which we don't have) or was his mind so steeped in watching third rate schlock that he naturally wrote that way?
Which latter would certainly exculpate the Ramseys,

John Ramsey states:
Since losing a child, John has made it his mission to get DNA laws changed across the country. He says every state should pass a law that requires DNA printing for anyone arrested on felony charges.

"Fingerprinting started back in the '30s, and it's a coarse technology. DNA is a very precise technology, and we need to use it as an investigative tool," he says. "I think it will exonerate the innocent and convict the guilty."

John believes these new laws can help save lives. "Premeditated criminals don't just do one crime and then go back to a normal life," he says. "Crimes of that nature are done repeatedly, and so the quicker we can get those people off the streets, the more lives and pain we'll save."

So far, 12 states have passed this law, John says. To encourage your state senators and governor to support DNA legislation, John suggests writing a letter or sending an e-mail.
