Some times the power and authority that a cop feels when he/she puts on that uniform can go to their head. I am sure Gottlieb was looking for an opportunity for revenge against those rich college punks. I also suspect that Gottlieb had a chip on his shoulder since he never went to college. I am actually surprised that someone could make the police force in this day and age in a town the size of Durham without a college degree. But that's a side note.
