Great work! Let's poke a few holes through the official records :
I wonder if she made any other calls? (I guess we'll never know, since Judge Stephens apparently let the evidence degrade...)
Fastest response in Durham history. (Try calling the DPD from some neighborhoods to report anonymously that someone has called you a name, and see how long it takes the DPD to send two police cars to the site...)
And between 12:53 and 1:22 Mangum and Pittman were ... where? Cruising? Enjoying the night air?
She needed these pain killers because...? What actual injuries did she have for which she required pain killers?
Great advice for a member of the bar to give to anyone, especially to anyone who might possibly be the subject of a false rape accusation...
How did Gottlieb get in on it? Didn't any of his superiors have to know and approve?
A case with possibly huge repercussions, and Gottlieb doesn't keep it himself but assigns it to a rookie (along with the responsiblity)?
Why didn't he talk with Dr. Manly? Wouldn't that be the first choice?
The infamous "Blue Wall of Silence"...
What veteran officer neglects to write "the alleged rape"? And who settled on "three" males? (Mangum would identify four during her only productive ID session.)
More GREAT advice from an attorney and member of the bar to persons about to be the subject of false rape accusations.
Who interviewed Gottlieb, and did he call the press first or did the press call him? And, since he wasn't in charge of the investigation--that was Himan--why did the press talk to him at all? He was only a second-line investigator on the case... And again, who settled on three men? Mangum's first statements were not about three men. If you discount those remarks, and also discount the remarks about her money being stolen and her partner helping the rapists, and the other three dancers being present, how do you settle on the tale of there being three rapists as being rock-solid and believable? (Especially, how do you do this if you are a veteran investigator?) Edited by Quasimodo, Jun 19 2009, 03:11 PM.
